Re: New ESP M-1, Looking to swap the stock EMG for something passive, Need advice....
It's pretty much a universal guitar forum doctrine that if anybody says the word "new" in conduction with any piece of gear (pedals and pickups excluded). Pics must be posted, or said piece of gear has no existence in time or space.

Remember if you go passive, you'll need to make the ground connection from the bridge that actives don't have, it's kind of a drag in TOM equiped guitars

I have that exact guitar and also didn't like the 81 in the bridge.
Too thin and "spiky" upper mids.
I changed to a duncan custom custom and now it sounds amazing.
Perfect pickup for the guitar.
You will need to get a new volume pot and can wire the TRS jack for passive or get a new input jack.
Mine had the bridge earth wire installed but the end was taped so you should be ok.
Fair play to ESP for putting the earth wire in even though it isn't needed for the factory shipped pickup.
Hope this helps.
