It's a Taylor 314CE. Beautiful guitar.
I drove about 30-45 minutes down to a small Taylor Dealer in Rock Hill SC. What a great little shop, Woody's guitars. The guy had a ton of acoustics to try. Plenty of Taylors, but they all seemed to be the non electric versions, or the higher end 714, 900's, Anniversary models ect, which is fine. They were all beautiful guitars, but one really stood out, and made it's way to the trunk of my car. I wasn't planning on buying tonight, just looking to compare prices and models to what I'd seen in Charlotte, but I came across a deal that I couldn't pass up. One so good that I broke my rule of buying gear on credit cards.
This is a 2002 model 314CE. It does not have the new expression system, but the former Fishman blender system. To me, it's a moot point other than looks. I prefer the expression system because it only has 3 small knobs near the neck, not a cutout for a pre-amp. However, the price was too good to make me hold out for the expression system. The 314CE (new) sells for $1500 give or take, that's 30% off retail. Sometime you can do a little better with cash and some hard negotating. You can get them on eBay for a few hundred less, but you can't try them first, which I have realized is very important with acoustics.
This beauty had been hanging in their second shop (in a much smaller town) for the past 18 months or so. They just don't move a lot of higher end stuff at the small store, so they brought it over to the main location 2 weeks ago or so. The price on the tag said $1299 with HSC, not bad. I went up to inquire about ordering the new 314CE and just got to shooting the **** with the owner. He says, tell you what....if you want the new 314 I can order it, and I'll give you 35% off..... ok, now we're talking. Then he says, if you want to take that one, I'll drop the price to $1100 with HSC.
Decision made. I couldn't pass that deal up, with a Taylor HSC, are you kidding. So, here she is:
