Re: New Fender Blacktop Series
I think it's going to be the Jazzmaster. I mean it's only logical: Why upgrade something like a squier to be what I want, when there is a guitar that is basically what I want? Plus I LOVE single coils in the neck. it's why I put the stock fender one back in my tele. I just like the versatility of it. When I compare this to squier, I do so because of the price range. I mean, $450 is pretty damn cheap for a Jazzmaster. i just hope they don't **** up the quality. The black one looks kind of boring to me, I can't wait to see what the burst with the black guard will be like. I absolutely looooove that it's a jazzmaster with a humbucker in the bridge!! I don't mean to start with this topic, but I feel obligated to. This is why Fender gets almost no bashing, and Gibson gets pretty much all of it. Fender has made a great move by offering these "Hot rodded" guitars at such a reasonable price. Try and see if gibson will ever go, "let's take a les paul studio, put some duncan designed (read:much lower cost) pickups in it, make it available in only a few finishes and call it the Les Paul Access." I honestly don't think it's going to happen. Don't get me wrong: I love Gibson guitars, I really do. I also understand that they are responsible for some of the greatest rock guitar sounds of all time. However, they have not shown the courtesy or gratitude towards me that Fender have. I have established a friendship with one of the consumer relations guys over at Fender, and he's always quick to answer questions and comment on products. I have never ever had this experience with Gibson, or almost any other company. Fender is doing most things right, they are coming up with products relevant to today's generation of musicians, instead of wasting time by focusing on some new technology that will *revolutionize* the electric guitar. That's not just a jab at Gibson, it's a jab at most manufacturers. I can't believe the price of these things! Granted, there's no bag or anything included, and the pickups and hardware may not be top-top shelf, but I'm sure I will be very pleasantly surprised when I finally receive my Blacktop Jazzmaster, pick it up, and plug it in.
