Re: New Fender Blacktop Series

My GC finally got a bunch of them in...but no Jazzmasters, only Strats and Teles.

My opinion of any mass produced guitar is to play as many as possible and choose the best one. But I was pleasantly surprised that the guitars seemed well made for a $450 guitar. The necks are on par with most Am. Stds. I'm assuming the weakest part would be the bridges....a couple notches down from the ones used on US guitars.

I didn't plug any in, so I can't comment on the pickups.

Going by the looks, this one catches my eye. A good set of Seths and this would be a nice inexpensive gat to take out to the bars.

I didn't read enough about them to know maple was an option with silver. :scratchch

edit: found the option for maple/silver but no photo. Very much more intrigued, now.

Does the phat cat really work that well in an alder guitar? a view reviews kind of scared me off when i was about to buy a set for my jaguar.

GFS Mean 90 in my Stratocaster, for reference.

Granted, I like the Mean 90 better than the Phat Cat.

Re: New Fender Blacktop Series

I got to try a couple of the Teles today.

Larger gaps in the neck pockets than I'd like to see, but the rest of the assembly is cool, and the finish is good. Pickups are nice, and warm while hot enough drive the amp hard. Reversed plate with the witch hat knobs is a bit weird, but I could get used to it.

Necks were badass, and that's one big plus for them. Fatter than the regular MIM Teles, and bigger than s lot of USA necks I've played. Bonus!!

They had the Silver/rosewood, and the red/rosewood there, but the neck pickup on the silver one was DOA, so I played the red one.

I'm beginning to like the idea of the Strat. I do like the 5 way switch. Because I like single coil sounds but humbuckers for the dirty work. Problem is, I my local Guitar Center only has them in rosewood fretboard and I prefer maple. I'd like to play one like that through a good tube amp just to see its potential.

Re: New Fender Blacktop Series

Ok so My Parents allowed me to buy a guitar for a few various jobs and generally goodiness for the last few years since finished college, I've allways wanted a Fender guitar and just recently went and found and bought a II Series Stage Lead Amp made in Japan, and needed a Fender Guitar! Went on to Ebay and saw these Blacktop Guitars and just had a massive male orgasm and hence mind blown and jaw dropped at the price.

As soon as i saw a Jaguar for $630 Aus I just had to buy it. In
Black. Its an Incredible Guitar!

first off the Tuners are great. The head stock is nice. Neck. nice and Short. The shape is different to the other Jaguars. I'm pretty sure they have used the Jazzmaster body. The Alnico Humbuckers are ****ing fanatstic and i don't want to change them. Was thinking of taking the chrome covers off, but **** that I'd regret it they actually look awesome and are very Gibson-esque. like a big punch in the face to Gibson by Fender. Bridge could do with some curves. Extended tail piece is great for Wigsby Tremelo System Modification. (I would have got the Jazzmaster, howtf would i have got the ****er on?????) don't mind the placing of the Pickup selector as i only play Bridge Rhythm. Knobs are good placing (I have ordered Mustang Duo Sonic MusicMaster Jazz Bass knobs similar to one on the Jaguar Classic Player HH) If I had bought a Telecaster, how the hell would i be able to strum down on the Bridge without leaving my hands in tatters from skinning them on the knobs? I think they have Released the Strat for vintage lovers (20th Century types) and beginners, The Telecaster for a new lead playing on the neck pickup kinda revamp ironic 2011 replacement for the Strat? The Jagaur is for Strummers and the Jazzmaster for Alternative Shins listening types.

But back to the Jaguar. It is the most rejected guitar by Fender. Its never had a good run up till now. allways overpriced. Ridiculed. Hated. too fidgety. too small. Laughed at. Stereotyped. a Toy Joke for like 50 years. It is an amazing design. I'd call it Beautiful. much more curved than any of their other guitars. This Blacktop range is nothing but revolutionary for Fender. Opening up their ancient Vintage relics and reinventing them for bargain prices. I looked at the Vintage Reissue Jaguar in my local Guitar Shop In Launceston Tasmania, its priced at $1500 aus, wheareas mine is priced at an overall $790 aus (including shipping costs) Is just a different Guitar from any other Jaguar i've ever seen, and from a Different Planet! The planet where Kurt Cobain Lives and Ronald Jones goes for his holidays to listen to grass grow.

I now have a Fender amp, Fender Guitar, two Fender Leads, a Fender strap and Ds 1 Distortion Pedal all for only '$1,307.

Buy Blacktop. for your Health. You will become a Rock Star overnight.
