Re: New Fender Blacktop Series

I think I will be ordering my burst JM soon. I am going to remove the bucker and the switch and replace the pots to the standard JM neck circuitry.

Re: New Fender Blacktop Series

You can't remove the bucker or install the rhythm circuit. that isnt it's route.

I won't be doing any extra routing. I will just replace the electronics that are there to match what is stock in a standard JM R circuit. The bucker and switch will just sit dead. If I can find a custom pickguard without a bridge pickup slot, that is what I will get. Either way I am going to set it up for a stock Fender JM neck circuit.

Afterall, I very very very rarely play my JM in any other position than in the rhythm set.

Re: New Fender Blacktop Series

we got some HH strats and an HH tele in a few days ago. unfortunately the tele needed some setup work, but they definitely look sharp:)

Re: New Fender Blacktop Series

I ordered mine. burst from Matt @ Mass Street Music. No tax (in CA), free shipping and they will do a proper setup job on it rather than give me what passed for quality control from Fender.

I have already started getting parts for my mods. Since they are not SD mods, Ill be posting up on another site/forum the project and its progress. I also plan on doing recordings of stock vs. mod and will post pictures of all the guts I replace and what I replace with...

Im excited. For those hating on these, they serve a real purpose to some of us. For me this guitar is a few things. Mainly, its a gig guitar that has simple controls that I dont have to overthink while on stage. Its also something that can get destroyed or stolen without too much heartache, which some of us know having lost gear out of the back of the van when playing shows...Lastly this finally gives me a platform to start doing mods myself rather than paying someone $90/hour. All my other gear has sentimental value or I deem too nice to "play with". For less than $450 I can teach myself about the mechanics and electronics of guitar so I can properly manage all my own gear going forward. And still have a damn cool gig guitar that I promise will sound F'in rad when I get done with it.

Re: New Fender Blacktop Series

I've been playing the strat model at Guitar Center. I like it, the neck is very "jazzy." Of course the strings are 9 gauge and I prefer 10, so the sound was a little thin on the bridge HB. But the playability was good. One was not set up so well, the other was. These were rosewood fret boards, I prefer maple. But a sweet deal for a HH strat. Remember it has a five way pickup switch. The 2 and 4 positions are single coil. I felt that the 4 position on clean was very acoustic sounding. Nice addition by Fender, it should do well.

Re: New Fender Blacktop Series

I like the Jaguar. Short scale, hardtail, simple controls. But I'll need to change the strings. 9s on a short scale?? I don't think so.

Re: New Fender Blacktop Series

there's no pics in that thread? dude!

tell us about the playability and the tremolo and the sounds.

I actually considered every one of these models before settling on the jazzmaster. I thought long and hard about buying another jaguar in silver, but in the end decided not to. i want to finish my fender collection. I dont want to repeat models or colours, so a jazzmaster in sunburst it is. im considering putting a 59 in it, just like ill do to my jaguar, just so i have no preference :D

I'm curious on the Strat what SD pickups could be they be compared to;maybe too early to tell.

Re: New Fender Blacktop Series

i tried the HH strat the other day into a bugera(i kno, i know, bugera:earl:) for a few minutes. dialed into a crunchy rhythm tone and got some cool maiden sounds out of it:)
