New Fender Metalhead amp

Re: New Fender Metalhead amp

US MSRP for the Metalhead is $1,142.84, and US MSRP for both the MH-412SL and MH-412ST is $857.13.

Re: New Fender Metalhead amp

HM Strat... Fender can do metal, I do not blaim them for trying to cater to the "younger" "nu metal" crowd. I for one would at least like to try the amp, if not own one.
Fender Rocks, I'll stand by 'em for blues, metal, or whatever they wanna do.
Rock On :smoker:

Re: New Fender Metalhead amp

its the same thing as the mode four. solid state and a great looking 1000+ dollar paperweight. those things must cost about 50-70 dollars to build so im sure marshall and fender will be loving this.

Ok, at $1143 + $857 I can safely say I won't be owning one, but... I still wanna try one :13:

Yikes! Even in real life, retail prices, that doesn't translate to far enough below the Peavey XXX... should've made it 300 watts & easily affordable to the target audience :)

Re: New Fender Metalhead amp

I heard some really nice heavey stuff coming out of one of the cyber head things. Sounded really good for a fender high distortion tone.

Re: New Fender Metalhead amp

I love Fender amps, but with that said, I don't like where this is headed at all. Fender has always been known for their cleans and pushed overdriven tones. I'm not saying that they aren't capable of designing an amp for metal, but that's why there are brands like Mesa, ENGL, Diezel and Bogner. Fender should know by now what they are commonly associated with and what people expect out of them.

I heard a person at the Music store get some decent tones out it. I did not mess with it because I don't know how to mess with the Cybers. I usually stick in the Marshall, Mesa, and other highgain amps section.

That is definitly what they should of done. They prolbably would make more money of this type of amp that way.

Re: New Fender Metalhead amp

Fender's just trying to get in on the hard rock action after all these years. They are trying to cater to the kiddies now. If the price is that high though, I expect a complete failure. The marketing team for these companies must be a bunch of monkeys. If you are going to release a new amp unlike anything you ever have before and have to compete with the big boys of rock amplifiers, you have to at least make it considerably cheaper than the competition. They just won't sell.

Re: New Fender Metalhead amp

Even at 550w @ 2ohms its not going to be noticeably louder than any 100 watt tube head @ 4-8 or 16ohms. Its simple marketing geared towards metal kidz. I would sooner play through a solid state crate and rat pedal than buy a solid state Fender called a "MetalHead",,, LMAO. Thats just funny.

Re: New Fender Metalhead amp

That big "MH" logo with a little itty bitty "Fender" logo on the inside makes me think some people at Fender don't exactly want the Fender name to be associated with it...even if it sounds great, and I'm a fan of solid-state...I don't think it'll fly...

I agree, it made me chuckle, in a wtf kinda way.

actually, now I'm starting to rethink my above post:

Now I'm thinking, maybe the marketing guys are smarter than we think. How does the typical mid teens metal head who still doesn't know anything about music think? 1. It's Shiny! 2. It's BIG! 3. I need at least 3000 watts to be heard over the drums, 100 watts is sissy! 4. It's expensive, so it must be good! Also, these kids have no expenses so they can save up their hard earned for this piece of garbage, and/or the parents will chip in. Maybe it'll sell better than I thought after all.

Ding ding ding... I think we've got a winner here :laugh2: This is another one of those "sad, but true" things.

Re: New Fender Metalhead amp

Yeah, look at the previously mentioned Mode 4 for a perfect example...

Re: New Fender Metalhead amp

Fender got sick of watching Mesa and Marshall walk away with all the nu-metal dollars I guess. Maybe that's why all the American strats have black pickguards now...hmm.

Re: New Fender Metalhead amp

On the power thing though - I kinda think doing high-power, if you're putting out a solid state amp, is not a bad idea.

You're just talking lots of headroom - they won't be going for natural overdrive.

Similar to the brand of home stereo amplifier I have (Plinius). The big daddy of the brand can bridge to be 1kw of power, so if you have one on each channel you have a serious amount of control at normal volume levels.
