New Fender Metalhead amp

Re: New Fender Metalhead amp

Why is a company notorious for guitars producing thin and twangy sounds, a la single coils, trying to build a heavy hitting high distortion amp. I can't remember the last time in this last decade that I saw a metal guitar player using anything other than humbuckers.... well, at least metal players with good tone. And what is with this trend of high watt solid state amps? Doesn't the fact that tube amps, after how many long years now, are still around say something about their superiority? If fender wants to sell me a piece of solid state electronics they need to produce a nice, cheap big screened t.v.

Re: New Fender Metalhead amp

I think the trend of having high powered solid state amps is a good one. Has anybody here overdriven a 30 watt ss amp? Trust me, it's not pretty. :)

You don't want poweramp distortion from ss amps, it just doesn't sound as good as a pair of EL34's or 6L6's being pushed.

Also, I'm a little shocked to read y'all responses about Fender not being able to make a good hard rock amp. Remember, most, if not all the high gain amps we play through now can be traced back to the '59 Bassman. Yep, a FENDER Bassman. :burnout:
