Mustang I = 20 watts, 8" speaker, $150
Mustang II = 40 watts, 12" speaker, $270

Fully Solid State.

Kind of like a POD (connects to computer, can edit and create settings in a software interface), with an amp built in to it. Basically a "me-too" gesture.

I LOVE the new styling though! Gimme a HRD with that look!!!

Mustang II looks pretty cool! Street price of $199 is very good for such product.

Re: NEW: Fender Mustang Series

we got 'em in the shop the other day

they sound much, much better than Spider and Vypyr.

If you want a digital modeling amp named after an animal, Fender's is the best one.

, nice.

Yeah, it's tough to beat them VTs.

Have you had the chance to compare the Mustang series with the solid-sate/tube hybrid Champ XD series? If so, what are your impressions?

Re: NEW: Fender Mustang Series

Mustang wins at low volumes. XDs are good but having the tube pre and power amp means the tube doesn't really color your tone until it's cranked...which is what most people are trying to dodge in the 5w combo realm.

My preference would be still be the Vox VT series cuz you just get the power level you need, the $70 foot controller and the $99 Vox Wah and you've got every basic guitar tone you'll need for under a grand. That Valve Reactor circuit is really awesome.

However, most people who are looking at modeling amps are thinking 15w = $99 because that's what Line 6 and Peavey are doing...so Fender took there time and now that they've entered that arena, they are winning.

I mean think about it. It's a wide open field and a spider is fighting a viper. Then this big horse comes in and just stomps all over everything and gallops off, triumphantly...

Great assessment - thank you

Re: NEW: Fender Mustang Series

Wow, I really loved the demo. I'm in the market for an amp to just practice with in the house. Can't decide between the 20 watt or 40 watt but I'm definitely picking one of these up soon.
