New Fender Ritchie Blackmore Strat

Re: New Fender Ritchie Blackmore Strat

i always loved Blackmore's 1973-75 era sounds on the various live albums out there... That reel to reel tape recorder he used as a preamp really added lots of mids and balls to his strats...

Re: New Fender Ritchie Blackmore Strat

that Blackmore Strat is not really a new model. it is the same as the Japanese model introduced in 1997. Fender Japan also had a Limited Edition Set-neck Blackmore Strat with 2 Lace sensors.

Re: New Fender Ritchie Blackmore Strat

The 1997 Fender Japan was made out of basswood, which many of the MIJ's were made of at the time. This new one was alder, but I thought Blackmore's original guitar was made of ash- since it was a 70's model

He had at least one Ash, a clear coat one with distinctive grain going away from the mid at the strap button. It got stolen around that time.

I don't think the others are Ash. Painting ash costs more, Fender wasn't into that.

Re: New Fender Ritchie Blackmore Strat

A lot of the Blackmore sound is in the technique as well. As an aside, I got very convincing Blackmore tones with an Yngwie Strat into a Marshall JCM 2000.

he went thru many strats!!! quite a few... for a while he took up smashing Fender copies that cost less yet he said they were better guitars then Fender was making in the 70's....

but by the 80's he had stopped smahing them and he had 2 White 70's strats that aged into a light yellow look that he used for years...

Re: New Fender Ritchie Blackmore Strat

6 month ago I bought a Hwy 1 that looks just like the guitar he had in the Smoke On The Water era - an uninspiring 3 color sunburst and a maple fretboard - but the big headstock turns it into a beauty.

Anyway, I would have been GASing about the new Sig if I hadn't had my own.

Re: New Fender Ritchie Blackmore Strat

The scalloped neck is what makes it great. If you haven't tried one, you should.

Re: New Fender Ritchie Blackmore Strat

I have several scalloped necks now and I approach really wanting them.

Huge frets aren't a bad replacement, though.

Re: New Fender Ritchie Blackmore Strat

I love his tone on Machine Head. That appears to have been a standard Strat into Vox AC30. When I have played through that rig it certainly seems to be the correct recipe. I know he used pedals as well for certain boosts and effects.

Re: New Fender Ritchie Blackmore Strat

Here's my old('97) one,since sold...

The scallops were pretty weird, tho, moreso under the plain strings than the wound ones,ie not very uniform...kinda "leaning",actually...

That sucks. It's what I have.
Good to know... Seemed okay when you first bought the guitar?
Was wondering what effect either jumbo frets or scalloped fret board (or both) have on chording and playing rhythm?

Thanks!
