The 1997 Fender Japan was made out of basswood, which many of the MIJ's were made of at the time. This new one was alder, but I thought Blackmore's original guitar was made of ash- since it was a 70's model
He had at least one Ash, a clear coat one with distinctive grain going away from the mid at the strap button. It got stolen around that time.
I don't think the others are Ash. Painting ash costs more, Fender wasn't into that.
I have several scalloped necks now and I approach really wanting them.
Huge frets aren't a bad replacement, though.
What if huge frets and scalloped necks, together?I have several scalloped necks now and I approach really wanting them.

Good to know... Seemed okay when you first bought the guitar? That sucks. It's what I have.
Better than having to get a re-fret,tho...
