Thanks to a collaboration with Hanser Music, owners of BC Rich, Kustom, and Michael Kelly guitars, legendary luthier Rick Turner's otherwise uber-expensive acoustic-electric guitars and basses are now being made affordable to the masses under the Michael Kelly brand. The new instruments are made in Korea's top guitar factory and will be available towards the end of the summer.

Read about them here.

If he's interested in money, he should offer a Michael Kelly version of this one.

We've talked about it... I want him to do it so I can finally afford a Model 1.

Speaking of Rick Turner, you can read his SDUGF Q&A here.

What is affordable?

Re: New from SNAMM: Rick Turner's Renaissance Guitars Made Affodable

Around the 1K$ mark which sounds about right for a high quality Electric-Acoustic and from my experience with Michael Kelly guitars it should be an exceptionally well-made instrument!

I was all "Whoa cool" and then I saw the picture of the guitar you're trying to sell me and I almost threw up my Guinness.

I will admit that I am already 9 Guinnessesesesesesese(s) deep if you admit that guitar is ****ing ugly as balls.

I'm hoping but doubt they will include the Lindsey Buckingham model.

Re: New from SNAMM: Rick Turner's Renaissance Guitars Made Affodable

I've always thought I'd have to get a Rick Turner Model 1 if I ever wanted that electric guitar tone Lindsey Buckingham is associated with, but I had installed some super hot pickups in a Strat, including the middle position (which isn't all that common, because it detracts from the "quack" in the 2 and 4 positions) and discovered that a very fat middle pickup in a Strat sounds a lot like a Model 1, as Lindsey Buckingham usually has it configured.

Re: New from SNAMM: Rick Turner's Renaissance Guitars Made Affodable

Wow, a strat really is the only guitar people will ever need!

Re: New from SNAMM: Rick Turner's Renaissance Guitars Made Affodable

And I guess I should mention I was involved with the project, so my comments might be biased.

If you play guitar chest-high, you play from your heart.

If you play guitar waist-high, you play from your guts.

If you play guitar low, you play from your huevos.

In response to all that; We Should All Play from Our Heart And Our Souls!

One man's ugly is another man's girlfriend. I've been GAS'ing for one of these ever since I first saw it. This arrangement might mean there's one in my future.

Re: New from SNAMM: Rick Turner's Renaissance Guitars Made Affodable

I like the shape a lot. The right side looks like half a dreadnought, and the left half looks like a parlor guitar. I just don't think I'd reach for a dedicated acoustic electric too often, unfortunately.

Re: New from SNAMM: Rick Turner's Renaissance Guitars Made Affodable

One thing about Rick's designs, they have one foot firmly planted in classic lutherie with emphasis on Howe-Orme design elements (and others); and the other foot planted in the modern. These MK/RT instruments--steel string, nylon string, and 4-string fretted bass--would be my go-to stage guitars if I was playing out more and needed an authentic acoustic sound in an easy-to-play instrument.

Re: New from SNAMM: Rick Turner's Renaissance Guitars Made Affodable

The guitar shown is not my cup of tea, I don't like to have the whole body offset but I do like offset waists. If there were pics of other models to consider I'd like to check them out. Any chances of that?

Re: New from SNAMM: Rick Turner's Renaissance Guitars Made Affodable

I honestly don't get the hate with the looks. It's the best one could do if they wanted to make an acoustic with good upper-fret access.

It's certainly not shred approved but still allows for playing above the 12th fret...

As a side-note and a bit off-topic, it had been some time since I visited the Michael Kelly site, no word on these guitars but I was saddened to see that in streamlining their offerings they had eliminated many models I liked including my favorite Patriot Limited and the Magnum (Floyd :D). A pity...
On the plus side, the Valor is making a comeback although the setup of pickups and bridges is questionable plus there's now a Tele line (1950s) although again, not one with the pickup combo that I'd like (mini-hum on the neck and a Tele pickup on the bridge)

Steel and nylon strings? As in, a model for steel and a model for nylon.

I'd go with Cleartone 80/20 Bronze Acoustic or Phosphor Bronze Acoustic for long life and pure tone without compromises.
