Re: New from SNAMM: Rick Turner's Renaissance Guitars Made Affodable

Now, would it be too much trouble to get back on point because the way this goes there will be valid reason for an Admin to be cleaning up, locking up or even plain deleting this thread which I think would be a shame.

My first reaction at first was "who t f cares?" but then I remembered that some other forums have huge problems with vendors hawking their wares in subtle roundabout ways. They have to go to great lengths to keep them at bay. Fairness becomes a big debate (don't mention your effects pedal unless someone else mentions it first, etc). so ... it's a touchy subject.

Is there a web-site we can go to to check out said guitars? If there's options I'd like to check them out as that offset body is kind of growing on me the more I think about it.

Re: New from SNAMM: Rick Turner's Renaissance Guitars Made Affodable

Some of you may wonder why more luthiers and guitar business professionals do not engage on forums.

Well, you should not be wondering any longer.

If you don't like Evan or Frank or for that matter, myself talking about what we do, then go start your own forum and don't allow us to post.

Evan is semi-independent now...he has Inside Track, a company that is basically match-making...putting industry people together. He set up the deal between myself and the Hanser Group who own Michael Kelly Guitars. Evan has also been a partner of mine in the D-TAR venture designing and making high quality acoustic amplification products. Frank, as you all must know, was a product specialist with Seymour Duncan and was tangentially involved in D-TAR. None of us got to this level in the industry by being lazy bastards, by being stupid, or by being *******s to others we have met along the way. And whatever directions we are currently zooming off in, we all retain absolute respect for each other personally and professionally, and we know that we are all dedicated to quality and originality.

AND, you might want to just remember this...this forum is at least partially Evan's playground. He set it up. He gets to call a lot of the shots. He's contributed a huge amount to upping the level of discourse about pickups and instruments. If you have a personal beef with him, man up and take it to him directly instead of hiding behind a lame handle on an Internet forum and sniping.

Rule #1 should be, "If you wouldn't walk up to a person and tell this to him or her in public, then don't hide your name and say it on the Internet." That's just weak ****.

And as for the guitars and basses; look for them in Michael Kelly or Turner/Renaissance Guitars dealers some time in October.

Re: New from SNAMM: Rick Turner's Renaissance Guitars Made Affodable

Careful Rick, you keep talking like that and they'll give you an infraction! LOL

Great to read you here Rick - although I'm sure most of us would prefer it was under better circumstances.
I hope one day to own one of your M1 Lindsey Buckingham guitars.
Admire your work and hope this latest venture goes very well for all of you.

I hope my comments regarding Frank were not taken as criticism - as DP pointed out, he's a very constructive member ( I tried to PM him, but his mailbox was full ).

I'm also a longtime fan of Mr. Turner's work... I'm really looking forward to seeing how this new deal works out.

As for me:
If you don't like Evan or Frank or for that matter, myself talking about what we do
This is why I come here, to garner information about guitars, their construction, etc. Talk freely amongst yourselves, I'll be in the corner taking notes.

Re: New from SNAMM: Rick Turner's Renaissance Guitars Made Affodable

Let's call this what it is. Awhile ago, the admins and I cracked down on a private group-clique of cyber bullies who were targeting specific SDUGF members. It got a bit ugly. There were numerous infractions and a few bannings. Well that's what this is about.

Look who's calling me out for imagined conflicts of interest: it's them. I'm sure, them standing up to me gives them plenty of bragging rights when they cajole in their nightly Facebook group chats. You know who you are.

As for all these so-called conflicts of interest or as Frank calls them "grey areas," they simply don't exist. Why? Because you don't make the rules here. The Seymour Duncan company does and the admins carry them out. This forum has a long history of inviting guests to spend time here and promote their projects, as long as it's not done in a slimy way. Much of it is archived in The Vault. Maybe other forums have strict rules about not promoting commercial projects. That's fine. The rules for other forums don't necessarily apply here.

As for allegations that admins edit and delete threads to serve our secret agenda purposes, that's simply nonsense and even insinuating it is insulting. To the member who thinks his post was deleted, re-post it. If it doesn't violate terms of service, it won't be deleted.

And though my engagement with SD is not that of an employee, I'm very much reliant of them for my livelihood--though as an independent sales rep. I do in fact have a Seymour Duncan e-mail, phone number, and an office, which I'm at every day. I never left. And I'm still tasked with running this forum that I founded in 1996. Back when I founded it, I made rules that didn't apply to other forums. Back then, there were only a few corporate-owned forums and they had strict rules about not mentioning competitor's products. I didn't follow their rules. Other forums might have rules about not promoting projects which include the potential for financial gain to the original poster. This forum doesn't have that rule, as long as it's not done in a slimy way. So to those who are calling me out for violations of rules of other forums, perhaps you should play on those forums.

But to the UIG members who have crapped up this thread, you have certainly made this forum inhospitable for industry luminaries like Rick and Tracy from Michael Kelly. But you've drawn far more interest to the new MK/RT guitars than I ever could with my OP. So thank you for that.

Now if everything I post generates acrimony from the cyber bullies to punish me for punishing them, we can't have that. So there will be infractions for insulting admins. Starting with some of the allegations in this thread.

Careful Rick, you keep talking like that and they'll give you an infraction! LOL

Hey! Stand up when you say that. Oh wait... LOL :)

Re: New from SNAMM: Rick Turner's Renaissance Guitars Made Affodable

I know it was only a couple members who decided to turn this thread into a personal thing against Evan, but Rick Turner is a Seymour Duncan partner and this is Seymour's forum and he would never approve of that kind of welcome to a fellow luthier. The SDUGF was started by Evan many years ago. It's highly disrespectful to question motives like that and make Rick Turner feel so unwelcome and I'm sure he won't want to come back. If you spend your time on this forum with grudges against administrators or mods or even other users and think there is a point based system where you can win if you attack people, perhaps it's time to take a break and play your guitar.

This is a FRIENDLY place. Evan has always been the champion for the SDUGF, pushing for things like the forum designed pickup and User Group Day. We at Seymour Duncan love our forum and deeply value your opinions. But when opinions are vindictive or personal, it ruins the thread and the value for everyone. Let's push aside the perceived slights and get back to having fun talking about gear, Aceman's threads in the Sound Room and checking out what each other are working on.
