New gear - Nearly stole an LP Standard! Don't hate!

Re: New gear - Nearly stole an LP Standard! Don't hate!

Really makes me wonder though- maybe they are better done than Epiphones.

I mean if you could potentially get one for three or four hundred dollars and they are a decent copy, that's pretty cool, at least from the buyers' perspective.

Don't do something stupid Saggy, bring along a detective with you. You want to make sure that you don't get hurt and that the deal goes down smoothly. Don't take that guys word for it, protect yourself.

Re: New gear - Nearly stole an LP Standard! Don't hate!

The guy called me a few days ago from a new number and told me his phone was damaged being repaired. I had missed his call by a sec, so I had a new voice mail, in which he claimed the phone was stolen. Then at noon he calls whilst on the way out of Chicago, which is under 3 hours one way no matter what the traffic. Fast forward to 5pm... I'm still waiting with a cop at WalMart. And his reason for the delay was downtown Champaign traffic, which to Wal Mart was due south (away from Chicago).

Other stupid things he has done:
-When I first asked what kind of car he drove, he couldn't remember the brand, and he said it was a Mercury Mountaineer or something. It's an Explorer!!!
-His girlfriend/wife/co-con-artist

Come to think of it, I think it would be a great idea for some of the more knowledgable people to do a post on what novices to look for on fake Pauls. Then stick it in the Vault for future references.

Just a thought

Glad it worked out!!!!
:)

+1 for the Vault thing, although they're "usually" pretty easy to spot,IMO...

Was the cop standing with you, or sitting nearby in his car?

Did he question the guy at all?

I see those Chinese Gibsons all the time on the used market, but the sellers always call it a Gibson replica, making sure we understand it's not a real US Gibson. They usually only use an Email, not a phone number, and the price I've seen for new ones is around $500.
I'm sure it's a decent $500 guitar. I wonder where these home business dealers are getting these guitars from? There's 2 guys out here that are always advertising them on the recycler.com, and they have LP's, SGs, and others. They're always sure to call it a replica though, and even claim that there's subtle differences.

edit - Here's one right here!

I got one for about $280 shipped new, got a good setup, put all new electronics in it and a brobucker and it kills. Mine is a cherry SG. I even fooled a real SG owner with it. I don't know if that's the norm, or if I got lucky, but this guitar plays much better than any Epiphone I've ever played and sounds great. The stock neck pickup was fine, so I left it in. Actually the stock bridge was great as well, but I wanted to put the brobucker in it. It was more the sound I was looking for.
