New Gibson Midtown Kalamazoo - Poor man's Byrdland

Re: New Gibson Midtown Kalamazoo - Poor man's Byrdland

Oh, I wish I had the money! That is such a great price (the real price, not the one on the Gibson site). that would be such a versatile guitar.

Actually, the whole midtown lineup has been a success, I think. Good guitars at good prices. Creative use of materials and building techniques, without being over the top radical.

Hard to believe the same company that makes this made the Firebird X (Sorry, Gibson, it's going to be a few more years before you live that one down.)

Cool axe but like the Bird land I just can't get used to that 23.5" scale. When I was a kid I couldn't wait to get my hands in a Byrdland and when I finally did I was so disturbed by that short scale that I face up on it

When I think Byrdland, I think Florentine:

And 23.5" scale isn't Byrdlandish IMO either.

I realize they do come rounded, but most I have seen are sharp horned. Then again, I may not have seen that many.

But like I said - I think it is a cool guitar at the right price! Also not something Gibson is known for...

Both of mine were Serpentine cutaways.

It is exactly Byrdlandish...What is your source?

From music123. Then yesterday saw that Amazon had sold one for 1089, and got music 123 to price match.

The body looks to be about half the thickness of a real Birdland. They give you all sorts of specs but not the neck thickness. That short of a scale would be odd to play, that's for sure.
