New Gibson-style toggle at StewMac

Re: New Gibson-style toggle at StewMac

I might just try one on my SG3. Seems easier than the chickenhead knob.

Re: New Gibson-style toggle at StewMac

I was thinking this + P-Rails in an SG.

Awesome!

Wait, 6 positions with the look of a 3 way? And you can do anything with the one switch?

Who has Artie's email :D?

Think it will fit inside of the cavity near the lower horn?

How do the Strabro-90s sound in that Ibanez?

They took the Ash guitar with brass trem very well, much better than Alder with steel trem. That Blazer with the Strabros actually turned out very nice. I brought it to some home playing session with friends and sound-wise it knocked everything else out. Of people still liked the Burny LP better because it looked better :D

Re: New Gibson-style toggle at StewMac

It shouldn't be too hard to make it fit an LP. Take a chisel, and make a little overhang for the one side of the switch to extend into. The non-LP guitars I've looked in that had a toggle all had bigger switch cavities so you might not have to mod it at all. See attached diagram:

Re: New Gibson-style toggle at StewMac

Yeah, that's how I figured would be the way to get it in there. Cool switch if you really have a use for it...

Re: New Gibson-style toggle at StewMac

It takes a pretty big hole, 1/2". That's ok for a LP if you end up not liking it. Just have to replace the switch plate. But on an SG you'll be left with an oversized hole in the guitar.

Re: New Gibson-style toggle at StewMac

I already had that wiring on my Les Paul with a simple DPDT switch in the middle of the volume and tone controls. Matter of fact it's better- switch up- in coil tap mode- switch down- in humbucker mode- and you still preserve the "stutter" effect of the switch.

That switch looks like it would be challenging to switch on the fly

Re: New Gibson-style toggle at StewMac

Im a JCFer too.. :headbang: looks like this would be confusing to switch on the fly.. and Im really curious how much wood Id have to remove from the cavity??

Regular LP toggles require a half-inch hole as well. So this is standard.

Re: New Gibson-style toggle at StewMac

BTW, the body of the switch is approximately 1" x 3/4" x 5/16" thick, excluding the terminals. Looks like it has about 1/4" of threads. The long side of the body extends out about 1/2" from the edge of the hole.

Re: New Gibson-style toggle at StewMac

I may have to get one of these: it would save a lot of additional wiring hassles and possible control holes.
Just to be sure, it looks like it has 3 positions on the right and 3 on the left. This might not be bad to switch on the fly if the switch is notched in a visibly noticeable location.
We need someone to buy it and give us the review!

Re: New Gibson-style toggle at StewMac

Looking at the pic, it appears that the 6 holes in the top of the housing are where the position locks are (notice the little light spot is in different spots in each switch, which are in different positions themselves).

Should be a fairly tight shifting feel.

I've got TripleShots to do all the stuff I need, but I imagine that toggle could be combined with them fro phase operations one one side and standard operations on the other. Hmmmm.
