Re: New Gibsons

Misinformation.

TRU never owned GC. Bain capital owns GC 123 and MF and Bain bought into TRU when they were brought private

ZZounds and AMS are related

Bain sold GC like years ago. You're way behind the curve.

Guitar Center has been bankrupt for 15 years. Nobody wants them because they're too heavily leveraged.
And thats saying alot because Mitt Romney became a multi-millionaire Mormon by buying heavily leveraged companies.

Yes I did forget that Bain dumped GC, but my point was Toys was never a stakeholder in GC

Eventually Jeff Bezos will own the planet LOL And Musk will own Mars LOL

Re: New Gibsons

I'm excited, but looking at the tops of them on the Sweetwater site...those 2A flametops are terrible.

Not sure why they went with goldtops in both the classic and standard range?
I did the same thing, looked for a Standard 60’s in Unburst with a secret 3A “2A” top. I’d rather have a plaintop than the ones I saw. Seems like a great guitar though.

Re: New Gibsons

I played a few new Gibsons in a store never to be named at a future date -hey, it was late, I'm out of town, and was bored ok.

Not impressed by most of them, it's like the stock factory setups were kinda gross. Firebird was terrible, Explorer meh, and the LPS were just ok.

The LP Special DC played nice -and it was the cheapest one.

Re: New Gibsons

Got my first 2019 today.

Much better fret and nut. Nice crown with smoother ends, not those minimally crowned ones with the blocky ends that they used for decades. And they're going with a much lower fret height too, I'm almost certain. All it needed to be playable was 1-3/4 turns up on the bridge pickup height screws, and 1/2 turn down on the neck pickup height screws. The frets could use some more polish, but they aren't bad. Factory setup is much better than the 2018 I recently got.

Sound like they are moving in the right direction.

Re: New Gibsons

I keep looking at the new Flying V's...then I look over at my extra OFR and then I glance at my router. Hmmmm.

Agree - if you can't get a bit of consistency on the tops just got for a plaintop. Tho if you look at the Anderton's video about them the Unburst is superb. Edge to edge consistent flame.

Think I'll hold out till I find a good one!

Re: New Gibsons

the prices are insane....

That’s what happens when things get built with labor laws in place, as opposed to most other countries where they’ll shut down a whole plant, fire all the workers, and move instead of dealing with a workers strike, like Cort.

I am sure they wanted to make a nice initial splash. We'll see where it goes from here. The corporate cycle continues. The unrealistic expectation of increased growth every single year almost unavoidably leads to a trend of cost cutting and a forced increase in productivity (meaning less time gets spent on each instrument) combined with price hikes...and in 10 or 20 years they might be right back where they were at the end of Henry J's reign.

But for now, buy 'em up, because they're trying hard, and it shows. I think these early post-Henry years will come to be thought of as a very good period, once we get 20 or 30 years down the road. I welcome every change they have made for 2019. It's almost as if they read my mind about the things they ought to do with the company. I was very frustrated and angry with what Gibson had become. But I am very happy with what I've seen this year.

Up next: sideways Vibrola SG, and the LP Special single cut. I'm going to wait till next year on the Special, to see if they release it with different colors (I'm not a big TV finish fan). But the sideways Vibrola reissue is such a rarity, and so damned cool to me, that I'm gonna grab one at some point in the next year for sure. Something tells me they won't be big sellers, so some deals might be had around N.A.M.M. time next year.

Re: New Gibsons

I'm digging the Les Paul Standard 60's model with it's features explained in the video. No coil-splitting and all that jazz...just a straight-forward Les Paul guitar.

Re: New Gibsons

And here's the LP 50's model. An LP guitar with 50's specs and I sure dig the tuners.;)

And here's a video on the 60th anniversary 1959 Les Paul made by the Custom Shop at Gibson.

Re: New Gibsons

Out of all of them, the modern one is the one that does it for me.

Re: New Gibsons

Nice to see Gibson trying to do something different i suppose but id rather have my 2012 Standard than anything ive seen so far in 2019.
