New guitar (again)!!

Picked up a Jimmie Vaughn Strat this weekend. Great guitar, really perfect for my style, vintagey, rootsy stuff. Comes with a set of Fender Tex-Mex pickups, highly under-rated units IMO. They're like a more vintage version of Texas Specials, really bright and clear yet they snarl when you dig into it. Uses USA Reissue tuners and bridge, bridge has a steel block. Tone controls are wired to the neck and bridge pickups, middle is wide open. Great notch sounds this way, really strong and clear. The best deal in Fender's lineup right now (if you're looking for a vintage-style Strat)

Aged white accessory kit is on the way for pickup covers and knobs. The only mod I'm considering is the 50s wiring scheme. It's perfect in every other way as is!! A first for me :D

that is AWESOME!!! i've never heard a cross word about the jimmie vaughn strats!!! i heard the neck is really good too...how do you like it!!!

Re: New guitar (again)!!

The neck is fantastic! It's nice and chunky, like I like them. Starts as a soft-V then transforms into a nice chunky C around the fifth fret. Never had a neck like this, but it's fast becoming my favorite.

Re: New guitar (again)!!

Thats beautiful!

The pups sure do look like they're set awful low, though.

Re: New guitar (again)!!

Yup, and they sound incredible that way. Very chimey and articulate. Got the idea from the FDP, everyone there raves about Texas Special when you set them low. Thought I'd do it for the Tex-Mex too, just right! Sounds like a vintage Strat til you dig in, then it cuts loose with the sweetest growl you ever heard :D

Re: New guitar (again)!!

nice guitar? what about a tortise shell guard? that would look really cool with the aged plasic parts when you get them

Re: New guitar (again)!!

I was thinking of changing the pickguard when I was researching these guitars. But, the more I see it, the more the single-ply grows on me. It's got a really neat 50's vibe. I might scuff it a little to take the gloss down.

great looking guitar! u surely have nice taste for guitars!

Re: New guitar (again)!!

Ooh, I forgot about this post. I replaced the picture with one taken after I installed the aged white accessory kit. This thing is the coolest Strat I've ever had, just love it. best deal in Fender's lineup IMO :D

Re: New guitar (again)!!

One of the most comfortable necks I've played. Great score. And you're dead on about the pickup height. When I had TS's in my AM Standard, the lower I set them the better they got. The Tex-Mex set is fairly similar. The JV strats are way underated for sure.

Re: New guitar (again)!!

Those are really rippin strats right out of the box! Nice score.

Re: New guitar (again)!!

that guitar is definitely on my strat g.a.s. list (yes i even have sub lists for my lists...lol)

i wonder how it would compare to a hamer daytona or a esp vintage plus?

Re: New guitar (again)!!

I love the look of an all-white Strat with a maple neck, very sexy!

And FWIW, I've noticed the pup-lowering trick seems to work well with the new Fender Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pups too. Great clarity and tone.
