New Guitar Day ES-335 Gibson Content W/ Sample

Re: New Guitar Day ES-335 Gibson Content W/ Sample

Ahh I hate you Rodney.

That of course means I love you, but am jealous, cos you picked up my Ultimate GAS instrument I have been saving for, for quite some time. A 63 block RI. Tho Cherry is my preferred finish, I would take a burst with no issues given playability and tone.

Congrats! I am void of decent headphones atm due to a larcenous 15 yo son, but will give the clip a listen as soon as I stomp...err... get them back.

I'm sure you're absolutely right, however, I already have three great gibsons in my quiver and we're about to drop 23k on home renovations so this is absolutely not in the close future. I'll get there eventually but for now that's a big no. I managed to put a bit of cash aside for a new amp kit but it's nowhere near what's needed for a guitar such as this one. Plus, living where I do, there's not even one of these for 600miles... and no used ones for sure and I'm not ordering one without playing it first so yeah, while I fully agree with you, it's gonna be a good while...

Cheers and enjoy that thang!
Cheers and thanks bro! I understand. It was bit tongue and cheek. Still the Ibanez and Heritages are nice.

I have a 1985 dot RI. I bout it a a guitar show in NYC about 20 years abo. It has the Tom Shaw pickups in it & it just sings. I also bought a 359 a few years ago and its sweet but not as sweet as my 335. The size restricts the tone a bit. Its somewhere in between a Les Paul & 335. Last year I had a Canadian builder named Brian Monty build me his version of a 335. His is all carved solid maple not laminated like a Gibson, and when I got it it was great but felt it was a bit bright, so I did my research and replaced the pickups with 57 classics and now it just sounds so sweet. The 335 I have is very similar to yours. Great guitar Good luck with it & great playing too!

Jeeesuz Dave, that is beauty! That is a really a stunner.
And I agree with you bro. I played 4 nice 359s and a few midtowns. Just not hitting home for me. Boxy but not in the big woody boxy type of way.

There's no way I'll disapprove.

LOL Thanks Jeff!

The Cherry finish is my personal favorite also as far as looks, but it is too specific a color to me. For me...Only Otis Rush, Chuck Berry and Freddie King look right to me playing them (or the Cherry Red 345s), LOL!
I feel like it is a bit of the 'blues uniform' when you show up with one. Even Robben Ford looks out of place to me with his Cherry block. And I have never been a Clapton listener and always thought he looked awkward playing his.

Outside of blues, Justin Hayward had a Bigbsy on his and its looked perfect for him to me...Alvin Lee was so known for his stickered guitar. EJ looks odd on the Cherry one also, to me.

Anyway, the burst color makes me feel a bit more versatile. Its a mental thing and it is a beautiful option also. It was a conscious choice to support my mind and personal vibe while on stage.

Cheers bro!~

This is my 359. Its a great guitar both tonally & playability. But it just doesn't have the overall quality of tone that the 335 does or my Monty.

And in this pic is my '85 Dot RI. with Tom Shaw pickups. This guitar ain't going anywhere. I love it to death. My Monty is a very close second, but its gonna take a little more time with my hands on the strings for it to become my #1 Humbucker guitar.....

Sweet Box Rodney!

By the way - the Reverb on that mix is perfect. That guitar is keeper man.

Great NGD Rodney. I'd love a 335 , who wouldn't , but I've lusted after a 60's Epiphone Casino since I played a couple back in the 60's. I doubt I'll ever get one though.

Re: New Guitar Day ES-335 Gibson Content W/ Sample

LOVE the tone. Excellent phrasing, too, of course!!
Thank you bro! A bit embarrassed about that clip and will replace it soon. I am just beginning to understand the blues. Its very exciting stuff to me.

That is a gorgeous Gibson! Congratulations!
Cheers! Thank you!

Thank you Bob! Appreciate the reply~ BTW, the verb is this: http://www.uaudio.com/store/reverbs/emt-classic-reverb-bundle.html
You need a UAD hardware system to use it, but it is really lush and transparent.

Cheers! I think. What is FTW?

Congrats on that beautiful guitar!
Thank you~

Thats gorgeous Gary! Sweeeeet!.

Thank you! Appreciate it.

You can have anything you want, anything. Lusting is OK, but owning is more fun! Keep your eyes out and keep your mind right and I suspect the opportunity will show up sooner than later.
Wish you the best!~

Cheers,

If you all don't stop with the semi-hollow goodness I'm disowning the lot of you!!! :P ;)

Thank you. It was a dream come true getting it. I've been into them ever since hearing Larry Carlton and Lee Ritenour in the 80's.

Re: New Guitar Day ES-335 Gibson Content W/ Sample

Why is it that people with perfectly good voices always think that they are in some way substandard? Nice tune and tone all the way around.

Re: New Guitar Day ES-335 Gibson Content W/ Sample

Cool. I've never played an ES type, so I don't have anything to go by, though I am intrigued by Frank's newish hollowbody with the Fishman pups and intension system.

How do the nylon saddles affect tone? Softer attack? I've mostly seen them on old Maestro vibrola equipped SGs, which I guess was more for tuning stability.

LOL. Na, my voice is fine. Its just that I have not been using my voice instrument and it is stiff and challenged. After a few months of gigging my voice blossoms open and I can really put it out with more intensity, emotion, better phrasing etc.

Nylon Saddles as a component? I can't say bro. But softer would make physical sense. This guitar has a particularly cool sound and since I approach guitars as a whole idea I am not sure what the saddles are contributing unless I removed them and replaced them with metal. My $300 Melitta bridge on my previous Falcon had plastic saddles and my high-end Embie replacement had Delrin saddles. They all sounded great. And as for guitars, I hope you get a chance to play them. Really fun to play.

Cheers, RG
