New guitar project

So, over the past few months, I've been hankering for a new guitar. Also over the past few months, my financial situation has been improving, and thus I've started browsing eBay and Craigslist once again without (much) guilt. I was looking at various Jackson models and noticed that individual necks, bodies and other parts are just as common, if not moreso than whole, complete guitars. It would take more time and probably cost more to piece one together but let's be honest. If I were to buy a whole guitar, one of the first things to be done would be to take out the stock electronics and replace them with Duncans. The hardware would probably be upgraded as well, and eventually, the cost of the guitar + mods would be the same as piecing it together from parts in the configuration I want to begin with. Yeah I know, if I want to build a custom or semi-custom piece, I should build a Tele from Warmoth instead of a parts mutt Jackson. That's the next project.

I won this neck and this body on eBay. They arrived the same day and I spent the evening screwing the neck to the body. It's harder than it sounds. The neck pocket was kinda tight. It took a bit of effort to get the neck seated in the pocket and the screws clamped down, but I can only assume a tight neck pocket is a Good Thing™. I took it down to a local tech and he checked that the neck pocket was properly seated and verified that the neck wasn't warped or in some other way un-servicable. The frets are worn and need a dress/crown/polish, but that's to be expected with used parts, and certainly no worst-case scenario. Right now the neck is held on with just the normal wood screws, but now would be the perfect time to do threaded neck inserts. I haven't made up my mind if I want them or not.

I've uploaded some pics.

I was going to do the exact same thing and build up a DKMGT body with a DK2T neck. I'm not a fan of reverse headstocks and sharktooth inlay, but that's just personal preference.

Make this bad boy a metal beast and throw in a Blackout Metal bridge and LW-CH 2 neck. Tune E standard and use top light bottom heavy strings.... ahh yeah! BRUTAL.

I'm not sure I want actives at this point. I was actually looking to try a PATB set, or maybe a JB8 wound onto a PATB bobbin from the custom shop. We'll see. Why then did I buy a body that originally came with EMGs? Simple, this axe is going to be a platform for the various pickup and wiring experiments I know I'm going to want to attempt in my quest for tone. That's one hole I don't have to drill. Seems like a good spot for the volume knob for a Graph-tech Ghost piezo setup. That and the battery rout already in the guitar is a rout I don't have to make for the piezo pickup preamp battery.

A set of tuners and a locking nut arrived in the mail this week and I got them on the neck Wednesday. The first problem has reared it's head. The nut is off center towards the treble side by just shy of a 1/16". I ordered a BH43 nut but did I get the wrong kind for my neck? Or are the screw holes for the nut simply mis-drilled. Is it possible that the neck binding is off and only giving the illusion that the nut is off-center when it in fact just fine? Should I attempt to fill the holes and re-drill or just live with it?

The second problem is the screws that hold the tuners to the headstock. Half of 'em are bent, and some of the heads look stripped. Is this a normal screw that I should be able to find at any local hardware store or is it special item only available through FMIC or somesuch?

Re: New guitar project

Awesome score! cant wait to see how it turns out! PATBs are killer and JB8 is too! Or C8!

You will probably have to contact an all parts dealer or something to get the screws.. They arent standard hardware items.
