Re: New Guitar - Semi-Hollow Strat

quick question I am not sure if I just read this wrong, but did you do this yourself? or buy it from warmoth or what? anyway looks super cool

Thanks! I love the looks of her but also love her sound!

The body was made by a guy in Oregon named Richard Saylor. The rest was done by a boutique guitar builder in Atlanta named Frank Verrilli.

gloss finish buffed on the Peghead and Heal with an oil and wax finish on the shaft.
Personally, thats best way to do a neck! Are you building a new guitar or just doing that on one of yours you already have?
Building a new guitar from scratch.

Re: New Guitar - Semi-Hollow Strat

I bet that sounds absolutely killer - why the choice of the aps-2 pickups? On balance (woods being mahogany, rosewood, spruce, maple) it seems like some antiquity surfers, or even some custom shop pickups wouldn't be uncalled for.

Regardless it looks like a fantastic guitar - and I bet she's a joy to play. I would be scared about actually messing up a pickguard that nice haha.

It does sound killer and has awesome sustain!

I initially was going to put Fender Fat 50's in her, but Nick from the forum had the set of APS Alnico IIs for a killer deal. I checked them out on Seymour Duncan's website:

"The hand ground Alnico 2 magnets and moderate windings (Heavy Formvar® wire) yield a warm, sweet tone with more natural string vibration for great sustain. Players who get their distortion from the amp rather than the pickup love the APS-1. It allows them to back off the crunch and get beautiful clean tones with softer attack. Compared to the SSL-1, the APS-1 has a rounder sound with a spongier bass response. Comes with waxed cloth hookup cable and vintage-style "keyed" bottom plate."

I liked that it said get the distortion out of the amp rather than the pickup–so I went with these. First time I plugged her in I was blown away by the clean tones! I don't need "melt the paint off the walls" distortion so backed off crunch wasn't a problem for me. That being said, the guitar sounds awesome with high gain. The Seymour Duncan description is very accurate–very warm sweet tone.
