New Head!!! Lots of pics!

Well, I sold my Marshall AVT150, my avatar cab, a schecter bass and behringer practice amp to fund it, and my god was it worth it! 2002 Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier 3 channel, with JJ 6l6GC power tubes, JJ GZ34S rectifier tubes and JJ 12AX7 preamp tubes put in within the last year. Found it on Craigslist, brought it home and cleaned it up to nearly showroom condition. This is my first tube amp, and I am in love.

I'm running it through my spare peavey cab, which is now my only cab, but I'm saving my next coupe of paychecks for a mesa or vht cab.

The sound is exactly what I am after, thick, throaty and saturated, yet not brittle and harsh.

Thanks!

Since I am still in high school and living at home, all my money is going to building my dream rig now, that way, once i have to start paying for rent and college, my rig will be complete.

Best part of this purchase, was after getting the money from selling a bunch of stuff, it only took $25 out of my pocket.

Pretty much the same deal for me.

Get your dream rig, be done with it and don't fear not having what you want for the rest of your life.

Congrats on your 1st tube amp.

Re: New Head!!! Lots of pics!

Very cool! Congrats! The Dual Rect is probably my favorite of the rectifier series.

Re: New Head!!! Lots of pics!

Congrats man, sounds like it's all finally coming together! I finally got my dream amp, a 5150, and it feels great, knowing that I could see 100 other amps, and be perfectly happy with mine. I used to play with a guy who had the Dual Recto, and man, those things are beastly. Have fun bro!

Hee...hee...hee...the jokes on you when ten years down the road your tastes expand and you mature and suddenly what you would put your body in front of a bullet to protect nets a tenth resale value and no one wants one!

Trust me...that's why there's so many funny colored pointy guitars out there for chump change!

But congrats on the tube amp...it may not be with you for the long haul but at an early age you managed to demonstrate more tenacity and taste than I had!!!

Re: New Head!!! Lots of pics!

This is probably the only case where I'd ask another guy to give me some head!!!

Bet you haven't heard that one before!

...but you know, to play on what Skare was talking about, there's a buttload of Dual and Single Recs here in San Antonio for prices that, when you think about how popular the units were in the nineties, are ridiculously low.

In that case you'd better hook us up bro!! Where are you shopping?:D

Re: New Head!!! Lots of pics!

congrats on the amp, there are a lot of good tones that can come out of there. don't be afraid to try out some EL34's in there too ;)

Re: New Head!!! Lots of pics!

Thats's really cool. I've become a real amp freak after chasing guitars around for so long. Uhm, didn't they have one without a face plate with a guy taking a picture on it ?

Hahahaha...how long do you think that feeling will last :haha:

Gear is like a hot chick...if you have one, it's awesome and you can play with her as much as you like and never get tired of it for a time...but one day you'll see some other girl who totally blows your mind in a way you never thought possible and confuse the hell out of you...and before you know it, you'll be hungering for sweeter meats once again :banghead:

Re: New Head!!! Lots of pics!

Cool score! Those amps are monsters, and you're lucky it was just retubed with JJ's. I can tell that set of tubes were hardly used at all.....the red logos aren't burned yet.

Re: New Head!!! Lots of pics!

Very cool that you got a nearly even up deal!! AND...very nice gear for a dude in HS!! I had a kramer striker and a PV130 in high school. :eek1:

Dont let these other brothers kill your buzz... For many of us GAS is a sickness, and we are on the never ending search for the holy grail

Re: New Head!!! Lots of pics!

Yeah definintely didn't mean to kill any buzz there bro, that is an awesome score, especially for your first tube amp! I remember my first tube amp, and it was a wonderful feeling :D

Congrats!

Re: New Head!!! Lots of pics!

for a second, I was like "wow, people still play those?" there's such a tendency to have the next best thing, but this is one classic amp. looks great. I'd love to have one myself.
