New headless series from Ibanez

That's very cool you got to see and play them. I think there would be some appetite for this - the headless market, while small, is enjoying some new life, and Ned is one of the most reputable instrument designers of the last 40-45 years.

Yes, I saw the recent Fb post of freshly machined hardtail and trem parts, it looks like a superlative piece of kit. Did he use licensed Steinberger units previously?

I first became aware of Steve's work via his acoustic guitars years ago, that arresting looking jumbo with the asymmetric pinless bridge. Another titan in guitar making/design of the last several decades.

Yeah, Steve's headless guitars in the 80s used Steinberger parts- both necks and TransTrems. He is reissuing his headless models, and found someone to make TransTrems for them. Pretty amazing, really. A Steve Klein headless guitar from that era was the best instrument I ever played. Unfortunately, it was $8k.

Epic fail in my book. I have ZERO interest in a guitar like that not to mention I believe a lot of the guitars sound comes from the headstock and angle. I don't think the juice is worth the squeeze for Ibanez on the headless market. Just my opinion though. Everybody likes what they like, it just isn't for me. I guess time will tell.

I think they're ugly as hell. There are enough of those abominations around already, why make more?

Having said that, they kinda do have my interest (mildy) piqued though :lmao: . I remember seeing the ad's for those 80's headless Ibby's way back whenever & thought they were cool. The new tan burl one isn't as frightful as the other's I guess.....

But ...In the end I just like headstocks on my guitars...

Letting Julie accidentally see that post, leaving it up the computer in large font. Got it! Nice move.

Haha...actually she would like nothing more than to buy more stuff. She isn't good for me like that.

Another new promo.

The instruments are... whatever, but what really jumps out at me is the branding. Not sure I'd be eagerly lining up to saddle any new product with something so closely associated with the dumbest of the dumb as the letter Q is in 2021.

If you think Ibanez gives a crap about your twisted and illogical brand of thinking, then perhaps you are the one with a lack of mental facilities. NO ONE makes the connection you are suggesting, BUT YOU. PERIOD.

Right...they had some prototypes of 22 fret models, and actually built some insanely expensive custom 22 fret models but they never put them in production. Talking to Ola, he didn't see the difference (my guess is that he himself only ever uses the bridge pickup, like most of his endorsers). That turned me off of Strandbergs.

The last production headless with 22 frets was the Steinberger Synapse (in my avatar) which is among one of my favorite instruments.

I didn’t know they had prototypes of 22s. That feels like a silly choice. I emailed them a while back and got an answer that said that they’d like to have more variety but that they couldn’t have every combination, didn’t know Ola just didn’t care.

Love the Synapse. I’ll end up with one.

Speaking of Ibanez ... Guitar Center accidentally leaked the AZ Essentials series. AZ style guitars around 300-350. A 3 single coil hardtail and an HSS with a trem. They look great but the HSS has been taken down ... For now.
