I like the hardware and MIJ label, but I don't like the square heel and the one piece neck. Also basswood can give problems if not enforced with maple/rosewood/hardwood dowels wherever high stress is applied.

Just Ibanez/ Steve Vai attempt to take advantage of the 90s nostalgia.

Nothing special about the hardware, just the DiMarzio-Edge tremolo combo that has been around for decades. I doubt if Steve will even include this in his main arsenal. Ibanez has issued a number of Jem and Universe iterations since the last 5 years yet Steve reverts back to Evo/ Flo. I am not even sure if he still plays seven-string.

Well, I for one prefer the old square heels - bigger surface area for neck/body attachment is always a plus. Wouldn't say no to the lava coloured one!

As for whether Steve plays sevens anymore, mostly in the studio these days, I think.

I LIKE IT . . . i would like a 6-string version even more.

The colour scheme is also very nice.
