New incoming "pedal" -- the Tone Box

Darkness on the edge of Tone
Whilst reamping the guitars on my next album I realized a deficiency in the process, especially when it comes to using fuzz pedals. In essence, the way reamping works is that your DAW and reamp box become your guitar's pickup (having recorded the signal directly already) and then feed out to your amp. However, there are a couple of instances where just having the reamp is not enough.

Example 1. You are reamping a guitar part and want to use a Fuzz Face style fuzz tone. Fuzz Faces require a lot of knob tweaking between the pickup selected, the volume and tone setting on your guitar, the pedal's controls, and your amp settings. Typically, you track DI with the guitar's volume and tone on full, which means the reamp simulates the same.

Example 2. You tracked a lead that you think would sound GREAT if played back with an octave fuzz ... but you didn't roll back the tone on the neck pickup on your original performance, which means the octave fuzz will sound pretty meh when reamped.

So I thought: wouldn't it be great if there was a box that had the volume and tone control for a Strat/Fender and a Les Paul/Gibson in it so you could make these fine tweaks when reamping; after all, isn't that what reamping is all about? Taking the time after the fact to nail the perfect tone?

I looked around and could not find such a thing commercially available. So, I commissioned this guy to turn my sketch into a reality. John does AMAZING pedal work, and he jumped on the idea immediately.

End result looks like this:

The mini toggle selects which tone stack (Fender or Gibson) and the volume and tone controls work just like your guitar's.

Need to change the knobs on the Gibson side to speed knobs.

Ultra cool idea and execution , especially with speed knobs on the G side. So cool.

Re: New incoming "pedal" -- the Tone Box

Thanks for the comments! The idea was really born from reamping with the SunFace. There are so many nuances required that you cannot possibly get it right when tracking the DI six months ahead of time.

Re: New incoming "pedal" -- the Tone Box

Now you just need to remove the volume and tone pots from your guitars like I do. :D

About half of my guitars are wired direct, too!
