New-ish Les Paul day

Re: New-ish Les Paul day

That's a banging guitar right there man. Always wanted a 60's tribute in that particular finish. What more could a player want; 60s slim neck, P90s, honeyburst finish, faux/pseudo binding, Gibson, etc. How does it sound through the D60?????? Almost picked up one myself, but held back.

Sounds awesome through the D60 bro. The middle position with both pickups goin is amazing, if I roll the tone knob back on the neck pup and the volume back on the bridge I get some awesome Santana-esque lead tones. And the Super Distortion is an awesome rythm pickup. I couldn't be happier with this guitar...it's almost as good as my black LP, but that guitar is something speacial, she has some serious mojo.

Re: New-ish Les Paul day

Was looking to compare the tribute models but hey if you got a sweet LP lets see some pics!

My 2004 Standard '50's Neck is in my avatar.

I hope to get the flat white Tribute some time soon. I do prefer the fatter '50's neck profile, though. The Tribute has a slim neck. Much easier to play the fat neck for me.

This is one I've got on layaway. I had the choice of only 1 as leftys are rare in Aus. Sounds pretty resonant even with the poor setup that it was shipped with. Only flamed top I've seen in the tribute line, even if the effect is only subtle.

the neck on mine is still chunky enough for my liking, maybe I got lucky

Bloodrose: that goldtop is F'n sexy!

Re: New-ish Les Paul day

Hey OP, how do the two compare?

My black studio is a bit heavier and the neck plays smooter. Probably a combination of being worn in for the past 7 years and the ebony fretboard. Tone-wise it's a little more mid heavy and more articulate than the sunburst.

The sunburst has a more open tone with more top end, a little more raw sounding. It's a helluva lot lighter that most LPs i've played also.

Both are very resonant unplugged, there are some minor differences but it's very easy to go back and forth between the two.

Re: New-ish Les Paul day

Am I the only one that prefers the honey burst to the gold top?

Speaking of Gold top, did anyone see the limited run Gibson double cuts? Now the gold top on that is banging.

Re: New-ish Les Paul day

Yeh, I got one of those DC goldtops. It is beautiful. I think the honeyburst is my favorite burst color.

.

I do too, but if you see the top in my post above you'll see why

beegee - I think that the ebony is a key ingredient with the tone. A mate had a LP custom and a Standard which exhibited the same characteristics. The custom really rocked, great for hard rock with heavier drive. The standard was sweet toned, and only liked moderate drive.

Re: New-ish Les Paul day

even with the poor setup that it was shipped with.

Gibson is not known for the best out of the box setups by any means, but do you really expect a thin lacquer finished guitar to make it all the way from Nashville, TN to AUSTRALIA (or Austria for that matter) and dealing with all the resulting climate issues and still have a good setup on it?

Really?
