New J Mascis Jazzmaster from Squier

Re: New J Mascis Jazzmaster from Squier

I figured there'd be mixed feelings but hey...It's a cool JM for less than a grand and it doesn't have that terrible purple finish!

I had a Classic Player JM for a few months and dug it alright but hated the moved tailpiece, hot pickups and mine needed some fvret work...by the time I got it the way I wanted it I was gonna have a bunch wrapped up in it and a JM will never be a daily driver for me.

This on the other hand...I might be able to work with this!

Re: New J Mascis Jazzmaster from Squier

With the dumb luck I seem to have with these newer Squiers I could see picking one of these up at some point if the neck is all right.

Re: New J Mascis Jazzmaster from Squier

Yeah, the new stuff from the past 5 or so years is really great.

I'm excited becuase it's a low buck JM with all the cool JM stuff (pickups, wang system, etc)...I mean, whats better than that?!

Re: New J Mascis Jazzmaster from Squier

I do like the color. ANd the more I think about it, having basswood softening the highs a bit wouldn't be such a bad thing.

Basswood is a neat wood for electric guitars IMO...it has slightly softer high and a cool midrange and good Basswood guitars do something special when they are played with a big loud amp thats really cranked...I can't explain it, it just has to be experienced.

That said, with J being the kind of player that he is and using the kind of gear he uses I'm not at all surprised that he picked Basswood.

Not sure I'd want the toaster tops but that isn't bad either

Re: New J Mascis Jazzmaster from Squier

Really I would love to have an Elvis Costello sig JM, that would make me happy

well, that Fender isnt exactly going to be a 60's jag...dork.

Not at all...since it's a Jazzmaster.

However thats not the point...

My point is you're slamming Agiles then pushing them

Also, FWIW, since the Agile doesn't have JM style pickups and the JM does it's going to sound a lot closer to a JM than the Agile.

Also, in your other Agile post you weren't comparing Agiles to vintage Gibsons...you were comparing an Agile Les Paul to a new Gibson RD...

So...whats your point this time???

I was just contrasting a premium Gibson to the Agile. You could also compare this Jazzmaster to a Premium American or Japanese Jazzmaster. No clear point. Why does everything have to have a point anyway?
How about this one? 139.00 SX ;

yeah I wanted them to come with Jazzmaster pickups too, but hey, they dont..buy a set of jazzmaster pickups, get out the Dremel and go to town.

This is like saying, wow I can finally afford an Ipod then going to the store and saying, WAIT, who wants an ipod?! I can buy a portable CD Player!!!!!! (in 2011).

So is the Fender I am pretty sure. I like the brass guard but then again I really like the sparkle purple sig model. Flakes and funky colors please: party:

The website says it's aluminum, but many people believe it to be plastic that simulates the look.

Re: New J Mascis Jazzmaster from Squier

You know, I wanted those Novaks because... thats whats in this guitar:

Elvis was a big reason I bought a JM. I bought mine right after the EC sigs came out, but as nice as those were (I'm a sucker for a walnut finish) I like the looks of mine even more:
