New line of Mesa amps: Express 5:25 and 5:50

Re: New line of Mesa amps: Express 5:25 and 5:50

Looks like the replacement for the F-Series to me. I like Mesa's EL84 amps, these should be pretty good too. I definitely like the 5/25 watt feature. It's good that major amp companies are starting to realize not all of us have arenas to play in.

It'd be nice if down the road they made a 12" version of the 5/25 combo, though.

It's the F-Series replacement.

The F's have dropped way down in price, though... I'm really, really tempted by an F-30.

I saw these and was very interested in both.

The ability to switch between 5/25 or 5/50 is fantastic I think. Really curious to hear them (both the EL84 and the 6L6).

That's a feature that I discovered on my Trace Elliot Velocette and since then I wish it were on every other amp I own. I think the Trace clocks in at 6 watts though.

Interesting to hear them....could make a nice switching amp for me to obsess over!

I think I'm going to cry. I have been looking for an amp like the 5:25 for studio work - I bet I'll have to sell a kidney first.

I have an F-30 head. It's awesome. " If it ain't broke, don't fix it ". I also have a fantastic Rivera M60 head that can run at 60/30/15/7 Watts. What, now everyone has to do that ?

Re: New line of Mesa amps: Express 5:25 and 5:50

I played the 5:50 yesterday. the clean was real nice. got some good jazz tone out of it. crunch was just that, crunchy. it sounded like it was driven just to distortion and cleaned up with lighter pick attack. blues was nice too. sounded a lot like the crunch but a little more low midrange. the "High gain" channel, I think they called it burn, was kinda sludgy. it sounded good, though. lots of low midrange (classic mesa right?). I personally would have liked a little more high midrange but this amp doesn't have it.

the reverb had ZERO effect on the sound. I mean it wasn't even there!!!

I think this is the amp that makes me realize i'm a marshall (type gain) man.

I pasted this from The Boogie Forum:

The 5:50 is $1149 & $1199 in the U.S. for the head & combo, respectively.

The 5:25 is $999 & $1049 head & 1x10 combo, respectively

Look interesting; wonder how it compares to a subway rocket (half the price, used of course)?
