New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

Well its still has that brittish tone but ... looks like the "modern" is not so much the midi interface but the presence of Mesa like growl, which is not entirely marshall or british for that matter, no ? my be its just my ears .... Its good, to me sounds better than JCM2000 that I had, but sorry did not convert me back, I am still a Laney man.

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

pretty interesting...its like operating a nuclear submarine or better yet battlestar galactica ...as far as marshalls go...

sounds like classic tones and stuff - I just dont think all those bells and wistles are really gonna wow the crowd and get you hot chicks though. so no-go for me at this point.

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

Sounds fantastic, I definitely want to give one a test run when they hit the shelves :fing2:

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

So many different levels of overdrive & grit. Wow. I like it.

Won't ever buy it, but I like it!

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

Sounds cool. Looks like it could very well be the successor to the 30th anniversary series and then some more.

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

I thought this thread would garner much more attention than this. People griped for years and years that Marshall quality sucks, they don't listen to the guitar playing public about what they want in an amp. Now they come out with a simple one channel all tube amp with a boost for the purists, and a 4 channel amp with 3 modes per channel, all independent eq with seperate reverb and MV? People should be going nuts over this stuff. There is now something for everyone.

These models from Marshall are the only thing that will keep me from buying a boutique amp like Celtic or Bogner or Two Rock. I think it's fantastic, and I applaude Marshall for making this move, albiet a bit late in my opinion, still.

Bravo Marshall.

I'm not sure I agree with this.

I see the markets as being very different. No matter how much work Marshall puts into it I think their stuff will be considered mass marketed gear. No matter how few of them they make they're still not botique and the appeal with the smaller companies has and will typically be a better QC just because of the sheer size.

I really don't see them competing for the same dollar. The appeal to me of a Marshall 18 watter versus a Celtic 18 watter would be that I'd have MUCH more faith in the quality of the Celtic and the buying experience is going to be WAY different.

...and God help me...I get working again and I'm going to start stuffing money away for a Celtic.

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

This one just has way too many knobs for my taste. I'd get lost with that thing. I'm patiently waiting for the Vintage/Modern amps to hit the stores.

I have never thought of Marshall as boutique in any way shape or form. To me, they've been the big amp giant across the pond that define the sound of rock and roll. Nothing more, nothing less.

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

The main thing is that they're WAY more expensive in the US than in the UK I believe, at least for you Americans since everything is way cheaper. Here, Marshalls are about the cheapest tube amps you can get. The 50W DSL isn't much more than the Peavey Valve King head for instance.

I like the new models, but I find the lack of an 'in between' weird. Unless they're not discontinuing the DSL50 of course, which would fit right there between the Vintage modern and the JVM.

Yes, they are more expensive here than in the UK. It's the same as buying a Fender amp in the UK vs. here. It costs money to ship a near 50 lb. amp overseas and then distribute it to all the dealers in the country. The cost has to be recouped somehow. That's just economics.

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

My point was, since they appear more expensive in the US, people maybe expect too much of them. But in fact they're pretty much medium quality and cheap amps here.

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

Seems like a good amp for those who like to have options and multi-channels. I love the simplicity of my single channel Laney though, and i absolutely love the sound, which is a good thing since there is no way i could afford any more big gear purchases for a while!

+1
to me all marshall are the same..4 channels, save and recall, 6 buttons on footswitch..it's complicated and confusing..

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

all those available sounds & they still fail to make one that doesn't sound trite & bland

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

Pierre,
Are Laneys more expensive in U.K. ??? How about GH100L for example ?

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

I never understood how people could think any amp with more than 6 knobs could be confusing. I mean, it's layed out about as user friendly as possible. Even that metal neanderthal in the video can explain it in 4 sentences!! LOL

Although there's definitely a lot of truth in the idea that the simpler an amp is, the more pure the signal path is. However, if you're in a musical situation where you need to jump between a lot of different tones over the course of a gig, this is the right amp for you.

Personally, it's not an amp I need to own, but I could definitely see that they've finally filled a void in their product line. It's about time they've come up with the 2 new amps they've got this year. They've already lost enough ground to Bogner, Diezel, Mesa, ENGL, Soldano, Cornford, Peavey etc.

Well, those amp that you mentioned took a bite out of marshall because JCM900/2000 did not give the tone people wanted. Engl, Soldano, Bogner, they simply give you the tone for todays heavy music that marshall stopped giving after JCM800. Now it seems to me that this model competes with Bogner and Engl in the flexibility but not in tone, but once again Marshall's problems began with tone-demand not flexibility demand, so I think there is a good 50% chance that they will not improve their situation at all with this one. Now, Blackmore switched to Engl, do you think Zakk is gonna start using JVM instead of his 800s ??? I doubt it ...

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

I'm wondering if JVM stands for "John 5 Marshall". I didn't even look at the link, but this thing sounds like an all-tube Mode 4...

I'm more in the 'simpler is better' camp (shoot, MY "Marshall" only has 2 knobs), but it's good to see Marshall making more of an effort in the modern metal market.

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

It sounds like it covers a lot of sonic ground, but the real question is "how much money are we talkin?" I'm guessing that a complex amp like this with a nice footswitch will be around $2000 street for the 100W head.
