New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

it's good to see Marshall making more of an effort in the modern metal market.

Hmmm.

I didn't interpret the demonstration in that way at all. I hardly even consider that tone "metal", unless we're talking 70's/80's, and maybe Zakk Wylde, which to me is super hard rock, not metal.

I think it covers everything from super clean up through hard rock/light metal, but with many different "tiers" between the two. These "tiers" are not only easy to dial-in, but easy to store in the foot pedal's memory.

It really seems to be for the gigging musician. The flexibility and vintage/vintage-modern tone are insane.

Like I said earlier, I'll never own one, but I can totally understand the market and targeting of the product.

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

Tone is in the ear of the beholder, and there is no bad tone, only tone you don't like.

The bottom line is this for a bunch of people...Marshall is to amps what Gibson is to guitars. No matter what they come out with, no matter how good the quality control is, whatever....it won't be good enough. Whatever your reasons, that's your choice.

At least they are attempting to address different segments of the market, both "vintage" freaks, and "modern" freaks with this amp and the other single channel amp. I for one applaud them for it. It's not the end all, be all amp, but at least it's a step forward from the TSL's and Mode 4's.

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

It's pretty obvious what JVM stands for - "Jim & Victoria Marshall". It's time his daughter gets her initial in there somewhere and franky, I think it's cool as hell. :fing2:

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

While I think the simpler Marshalls are made the better they sound, I don't think that amp is terribly complicated at all.....

In addition, I think (after I heard it on some decent speakers) that it sounds pretty damn good....not flat out awesome...but def a step up from DSL models tonally.

Not to mention with the way that thing is set up w/ that footswitch, the versatility is incredible....

Peronally I'd love to try it.....3 gain levels of JTM45...3 gain levels of PLexi...3 gain levels of 800, and 3 gain levels of (what sounds like) a tighter, less buzzy/fuzzy D/TSL.....all easily programmable, and easily switched...thats flat out awesome AFAIC.

Much more intuitive than a Midi setup like JMP-1 pre-amps...and sounds better FWICT.

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

I would love to see a demo were they give the power amp tubes a workout. For me that is were the tone is at. When I first started playing, I always dimed out the pre-amp. As I played more, I learned that the power tubes give a more "organic" distortion tone. Especially when sustain is involved. It looks like an interesting amp. Complication does not intimidate me. I like to exercise the part of the human drain that brought us out of the stone age. I do agree that a complicated circutry can alter the tone, but good tone can be achieved with multi-channel amps. I love different tones, they inspire me to approach my guitar differently. If an amp can give me different (usable)tones in one box, then great. On that point I do own many single channel amps to achieve different tones. I think this amp would be too loud at 100w unless it has a way to reduce power output. Like I said I like to find the sweet spot with the power amp tubes, and that usually means a loud stage volume. That was my band members biggest problem with my jcm 800. To get the power tubes to go from cold to warm sounding usually meant a loud stage volume. Anyway, I will look forward to trying out this amp.

From the clip I like my 6505 better...

Though that foot switching system is really badass.

I love the little cut-outs as he changes between channels with the footswitch :P

Sounds good though, but there really wasn't a whole lot different going on with those green/orange/red modes, just sounded like more gain on each...woohoo! Still, seems a lot better than the 2000 series ever was which is a great thing for Marshall.

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

I think that most people that nitpick this amp...if they were to buy it, would end up loving it. One thing I've realized about good sounding multi channel amps is that they spoil you. And sometimes, they force you to be a more versatile player, because you can play about 6 styles of music on the same amp.

It's hard to get tired of an amp that can go from country to bluesrock to extreme metal, by hitting a switch. And as much as I like single channel amps too, pedals for gain just aren't the same as extra amp channels. In the past, multi channel amps always sacrificed tone, but companies have finally figured it out, and most new multi channel amps don't suck at all. They may not be necessary for everyone, but they aren't pieces of crap like many were years ago. This amp strikes me as a JMP-1 preamp attached to a classic Marshall power section. I like that feature of being able to assign reverb or FX loop to certain channels. I can't wait till they hit stores, because I'll give it the benefit of the doubt like I do with all music toys.

I already know it's not knocking the Bogner Ecstasy of it's throne, so it's doubtful I'll be buying one, but it looks like a fun amp to check out.

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

I fully agree with JeffB and GJ. I think this is Marshall's most exciting product in years. I'm assuming that with only 4 12AX7's, they are using diode clipping for the extra modes (a la Silver Jubilee) coupled with midi capability (a la 30th Anniversary) in a more intuitive package, this amp has got to be a winner - certainly an improvement on the DSL/TSL range. I can't wait to try one!!

Price wise, based on TSL prices, I reckon they'll hit US stores at less than $2K.

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

Yeah, I see people knocking this amp the same way they're knocking the new Fender Supersonic. I'm pretty sure if they had a dual amp rig of the JVM and Supersonic combo sitting next to it, they'd be stoked, not hating anything about it.

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

Too many bells and whistles for me. A Fender Pro Junior plugged into a Marshall 4-12 ext cabinet, a Marshall Jackhammer, and a good reverb pedal will give you the same results for a lot less money.:smoker:

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

I never understood how people could think any amp with more than 6 knobs could be confusing. I mean, it's layed out about as user friendly as possible. Even that metal neanderthal in the video can explain it in 4 sentences!! LOL

:-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

3 Channel Amps

3 Channel Amps

The problem is that most of us mortals can't shell out $5000. for a Bogner , etc. Give me a Traynor anyday. - Rob

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

Ok, I've got my own copy of the demo DVD and the amp sounds kick ass!!! It actually uses 5 12AX7's and 2 JCM800 transformers. Another interesting feature is the emulated line out which when amp is in standby it is also in silent record mode so the preamp can be used for recording without being connected to speakers.

Also if you listen carefully to the start of part 1 of the demo, Chris George says this is the 4 channel version, intimating that there will be a 2 or 3 channel version???

here's part 2 of the demo......

Re: New Marshall 4 channel all tube JVM demo!!!

I'm excited about this. If they actually come out with a 2 or 3 channel version, in 50 watts, switchable to 25 like the Silver Jubilee...I would be in heaven!

Sarcastic post, right?

Sarcastic post, right?

Haha dunno man...didn't sound too sarcastic to me.

I'm actually very interested in whatever low wattage combos they bring out...actually nah, I'll still get a Screamer :haha:

Sounds like our "middle ground" replacement for the DSL and TSL series right there. :smokin:
