Re: New Marshall amp coming out!!!
No matter what it's going to be, it is very likely to have a PCB if it's a totally new amp. It's all about a good layout and it's easier to maintain consistency and way more cost effective to go with a PCB. If they'd stick a good thick board in there with through hole plating, it would be perfect.
But do I hear difference between an old PTP and the new PCB 1959 re-issue ? Yes, I do, the old one sounds better. I also hear difference between PTP and early 70's PCB Superleads and also between the same kind of amps amongst themselves.
But to say that's all in the PTP / PCB difference ? I'd rather believe there's some difference between the caps, resistors and transformers they used back then and the stuff they're using now.
Thick PCB, through hole plating, preferably no PCB mounted tubes and it's good enough for me. And even if it does have PCB mounted tubes, some of those socket extenders or whatever they're called should take care of the heat and wear. Not a reason for me not to buy it.
If the new amp could only do a blackface clean, a dirty somewhere between a 1959 and a 2203, but with a bit more gain, I'd be very interested. Then if they'd make it with reverb on board, an FX-loop and as a 1x12" combo, I'd take a loan and buy it !
That would give me all the sounds I ever wanted and have been waiting for so long to get it. Those sounds in a small package that I can play at home, jams, pub gigs and easily take to the bigger gigs where I'd put it on my 4x12" ! I'd never have to look for an amp again !
Ah, just daydreaming .. It will probably be aimed at the large market of kids or music enjoyed by kids these days but they already have the Mode Four so ..
Marshall is going to release
a modeling amp !
