Gee. Looks as if I am on more Ignore Lists than I realised.

You may very well like the VB set.

In fact, if you're interested in trying a '59N, I happen to have a newer all-black one in excellent condition with a little over 12" leads. I'd be willing to do $45 shipped via Paypal "gift" (as long as you're in the U.S.)...let me know!

Wow, thanks. That's a great price. If i do decide to purchase 59's I'd like to buy the set for a Les Paul. I'm not moving the set-up in the Explorer, 2 period correct Humbuckers that sound good, is enough for me.

I want to gut the guitar and install new wiring, jack, switch, and pots, then wire 50's style.

You can make the necessary changes without removing absolutely everything. A tired jack socket and worn pots could go - especially if they turn out to be 300k. The cable between the pots and the selector switch should be okay to keep. (Some of the cable runs in Explorers are awkward lengths. You could end up buying fresh cable in bulk.)

It's just that 59B sounds and responds so sweet in the neck of my Explorer. So my thinking was, imagine a 59 set in my new Les Paul.

If that specific SH-1B sounds good, leave it exactly where it is. Invest in something a bit hotter for the bridge/Treble position. Money no object, try the custom shop Brobucker. (If it doesn't suit the Explorer, it surely would suit a Les Paul!) Second choice, the SH-16 '59/Custom Hybrid.
