New MEU/AM Day

Picked up a Headrush Gigboard today. Seems amazing but don't they all, at least at first lol

Was going to go simple with an RK5 v2 Flyrig but all the pretty colors on the big screen got to me

Scored it new for the cost of the MX5 which is what I thought I was going to get. Came with a bottle of Black Beauties so I can stay up and focus on learning to use it properly. Need to bring the PA home too I guess.

Nice. All you need is a powered speaker for it. The Headrush 8" powered speakers sound massive for their size. Perfect for at home tinkering, at rehearsal and even a personal monitor on stage. I want to grab a couple to use with my DI rig as personal monitors.

When I picked up my MX5, GC had a sign for the Gigboard for the same cost, if they had any instock, Id gotten the gigboard instead. Enjoy, dont forget to update the drivers for the amps and pedals.

We'll be in TX on 7/16 bring 'em down! I looked at one but don't need it yet, I'm interested, if this works out as I hope I imagine I'll get one.

I got the last Gigboard they had, left over from Memorial Day sale maybe?

I'll be on the road all weekend so hoping to do more than turn it on when I get back.

I don’t have one of them yet. Definitely on the list though.

Where in TX you gonna be?

Used it for home practice tonight into my Focusrite thru my laptop into Alesis M1 Active520 monitors.

There are a lot of erm...so-so patches lol but the Plexi Rock patch is fantastic and is so close to what I need I couldn't be much happier. A few little tweaks at volume and I think I'll have a good foundation for what I need to use it for.

I'm doing 16-17 gigs this summer as part of an Aerosmith tribute. A bunch of dates we're flying to and from so I need to be light and ready to run to house quickly and reliably. After the summer I will be DH-ing for them when need be and I am joining another pretty cool cover band as a sort of utility player. I'll need a lot more flexibility than my normal setup so hoping this pays a lot of dividends.

****I'll let you know when they tell me where in Texas it is, I got 3 different answers so far lolololol.

You picked up the right piece of gear for what you need for travel. If you’re using IEM’s, don’t worry about a stage monitor. You wouldn’t hear it anyway. Lol.

This thing is pretty impressive, closest thing I had to this was the HD500, which was a bit of a let down even though it had some pretty impressive features.

Still in the learning curve phase but I have built a few pretty reasonable patches, or Rigs as they call them. Sound pretty good thru my monitor system, I am running thru a PA tomorrow to see how well they translate.

The FX are very good, it is fairly easy to navigate but there are things it does I never even considered, so there's that lol. Biggest thing I struggled with so far was the cab emulations, most of them just sound way too compressed and boxy. I read a few EQ tricks and they helped a bit but I wasn't convinced that was the best way to go so I reached out to York Audio who were recommended to me by a friend. They gave me a couple of options that sounded like they were worth a shot. I ordered two IR packs based on Marshall cabs with Greenbacks and V30's and it made it so much easier to work with, a lot more dynamic and realistic. Total props to Justin York/York Audio who got back to me almost immediately with a detailed response

I have to work out "Scenes" in the Rigs to do exactly what I want but it seems like it'll get the job done. I am liking it for sure.

Did the first fly date with it and it worked out pretty well I gotta say. I kept it very simple because first I like simple things but I didn't want to be hung up onstage trying to tap dance with it.

I ran straight to house in mono with a balanced 1/4" to XLRm cable and had one monitor in front of me. Unfortunately the venue had some phase issues with the monitors onstage so you had to be up on top of them for the best sound but out front it sounded great in the mix.

I was easily able to make quick changes to the rig I set up for the show. I was practicing thru a powered 2x12 monitor to get it dialed in and I was pretty close. Had to setup a louder solo boost and give it a little more bottom end than I anticipated. I built 5 similar rigs with different amps since I was unsure what to expect. I ended up using a rig with a PV 5150 model thru a V30 4x12 cab IR.

I'll get a little more adventurous next fly gig.

Yeah most of the rigs I built around Plexi models, I really like the EL84 mod version,. I used a few different IRs and cabs, all Celestion Greenback and or v30 based.

The 5150 model just had a little more natural feeling saturation when I got it thru the stage monitors.

i play in a cover band and the other guitar player uses a headrush board with one of their little powered monitors. hes very happy with it

I amm thinking about the FRFR speaker setup they have but local and driving gigs I use my amps and I don't think I'd fly with the speaker. I have to believe some venues will have something like that for backline in the near future since they don't want loud amps anymore.

if you are on a big stage, they will just run you through the monitors.

That's how I am using it. I really like the vibe of having something behind me though so having a powered cab like that onstage would be great in addition to the monitors.

yeah i get that. my buddy actually puts his little powered speaker in front of him, i think id prefer it behind me as well

Aside from investing in IEM's, I would rather have a monitor pointing up at me than hearing it from behind me.

I still want a monitor in front of me but side fills or back fills help give you so much more vibe on stage.

IEM's are probably the best modern solution but I am deaf in my right ear and when I tried them I got a disoriented so I've shied away from them.
