I bought this last night for less than 150 total. I always been interested in the old antique barn, salvaged barnwood and reclaimed submerged wood. From a chemistry standpoint, it may make less of a difference now that they are roasting the new wood. Heaven only knows what grade Poplar this was when used for a barn 150 years ago, assuming it really was. I don't know the weight. I plan on putting a roasted Maple neck on this 'ventually.
I might burn a set of Longhorns from a small branding iron onto the forearm bout , and maybe do a tolled leather pickguard with some Duncan Antiquities.
From sellers description;
"This was part of a hand hewn poplar beam from a 120 yr old barn that had been taken down. If you count the growth rings and add the barns age it's probably a 200+ yr old pice of wood. I chose to leave the axe marks on the outside. I skip sanded it a bit then coated it with marine epoxy. When it set I gave it a satin finish to preserve the look".
I guess the back is unfinished, would you say?. Actually looks like a decent cut of tree to me? ;
