well here's the story...
i took my mother out to eat today and she gave me a little present that she thought it was time i had...an old epiphone acoustic that my grandma used to have...i couldn't believe it...this is the first guitar i ever touched in my life...i can remember going to my grandmas house and snooping through stuff and stumbling across this old dusty guitar case in one of her rooms and asking her if i could play it..(prolly 8 years old) and she said yes of course, so i pulled out this old acoustic with rusty strings which hadn't been in tune for who knows how long and "tried" to make some sort of musical sound (this guitar is probably what kept me from picking up guitar along time ago) i couldn't make it due much back then...didn't know squat about tuning and things and that always got me frustrated and would put it up...but i tried everytime i went over there...
well she died when i was in the 5th grade i didn't know what happened to the guitar and didn't think much about it...oh a few times i mean it was the first one i ever touched in my life...and of course i've thought about it alot in the past few years after i learned how to play a guitar and i guess my mom ran across it who knows where and knew i would want it...
so i've spent the majority of my day bringing it back to the state it needs to be in...i've cleaned it really good and gave it a bit of a shine...put some lemon oil on the fretboard, oiled the tuners, and put new stings on it...it has a crack on the top from the top right of the soundhole to the edge of the top running parallel to the fretboard...doesn't affect the sound though....so after all this time...i tuned it up and starting playing it...actually making chords on it of course and playing songs...songs i only wished i could play on it when i was a kid...it was pretty cool...
it's a smaller body don't know what wood the top is...i think the sides and back might be mahogany...they're kinda dark...i went to the a site that dates epi's and it said it was built in the kalamazoo plant in 1969...but i haven't researched what model it is or anything yet...it has no markings except "Epiphone" on the thin headstock and a pressed serial on the back of the headstock...nothing written anywhere inside that i can see...it has nice pearl dot inlays and the frets are in pretty good shape...it actually sounds pretty good and plays pretty easy for an old girl like she is...i named her "Mary" after my Grandma...and i'm pretty excited about fixing her up a bit and playing her...already came up with a little ditty on her...i'll try to get pics up in a couple days...i need batteries for my camera.
later on fellas,
mike
