New pedal build... another fuzz...

This one was brought to my attention by ChrisofArabia. It's from an article in Applied Electronics I think. Got IvIark at tagboardeffects to make me a vero layout for it since I'm still too new at making vero layouts to make this one work yet...

It's yet another fuzz but it really deserves its name (They call it "Smooth Fuzz" in the original article). Sounds great and it is very smooth and thick.

Since it's only two simple controls (volume and fuzz) I thought it'd be the right time for my first mostly black pedal.

Yellow led, first time using the 3pdt swithc daughterboards I etched a while ago. Very cool and time-savers to say the least. Makes things a little tidier inside the enclosure.

Hope you like:

This week-end yielded two more completed and working circuits, so expect two new build threads to come in the following week(s).

Cheers!

IC based fuzz huh?

Whats it based on?

I couldn't find anything particularily like it honestly (I'll confess to not knowing by heart the thousands of fuzzes' topologies out there) but it's definitely not based on anything classic or well known...

From recollection, just about anything with 8 legs - the circuit diagram says a TL072CP, I've no idea what Surgeon used, but I know that's not what I'm going to try it with.

I think TGWIF was referring to the whole circuit being based on something known but I could be wrong.

You're right, it's intended for TLO72 and that's what I used.

I should kick my own butt and do a video demo of this one, just for the fact that there's none that I know of out there. It would be nice for folks to be able to hear this one, it's quite worth it IMO.

Hmm I know that one....but of course the name escapes me right now:D
Think Danelectro made a IC based one as well....

Didn't know that... good to know!

I notced a YouTube video on this page - is that the one that did the veroboard layout for you?

Yup, that's the blog where I got the vero layout done. The vid must've been uploaded recently then. It's not a bad video but I always have doubts when you can hear the strings more than the amp you know? Still not a bad demo of the pedal.

Yep, know exactly what you mean - way too many like that.
