Re: new pickups for epiphone

My sense of it is that either choice would do a good job. The Whole Lotta Humbucker (WLH) set would probably have more of the nuance for blues and classic rock, while the '59 might do better for 80's. You could punch either of them up with an overdrive (like a Tube Screamer) into a Marshall.

Re: new pickups for epiphone

The 59/Custom hybrid might also be a good choice. It kinda straddles the boundary behind vintage and modern. More drive available for the heavier stuff, but enough vintage character to do the classic rock. And if you wire it with a push-pull for splitting, it can produce good singlecoil tone too. An extra level of versatility.

Re: new pickups for epiphone

thanks for the advise i'll check out the 59 custom because i do like coil split and page did it with great success in led zeppelin my third choise was the hot rod set but i thought it had too much out put for stuff like zep and cream and foreigner and so on

Re: new pickups for epiphone

For what you listed, I would go with the Whole Lotta set. The 59 bridge can be a bit underpowered and the highs can get brittle. The 59 neck can get boomy in the wrong Les Paul. The Whole Lotta set is a more versatile well rounded set. I like the 59 set better in an SG.

PG neck / 59 Bridge

or

PG neck / Whole Lotta Bridge

or

Whole Lotta neck / Custom/59 Bridge

(For the record, I'm in an 80's Hair band and a PG Bridge is my favorite for that of late....)

Re: new pickups for epiphone

I ike that Epi- never seen one in that color! I think the Whole Lotta Humbucker set can cover what you want easily, and you can buy them as a set, which might save some $$.
