New pickups for stratocaster

Hi! I'm spanish, sorry for my english

I have got an american standard fender stratocaster. I love Gary Moore tone and I'm looking for some pickups that works well in my strat and sound good.

My strat has got 3 single coil pickups... do you think is better put humbuckers in bridge and neck?
What pickups do you recommend me? I'm looking for a fat sound like Gary's.

Does "Burstbuckers pickups" works well on a stratocaster or only can be put in gibson guitars?

I hope you can help me!

Cheers!

Re: New pickups for stratocaster

If you have a Strat routed with pickup cavities that can hold humbuckers, you can try any humbucker you want. Of course, the pickguard needs to be cut for humbuckers too, but those are easy to get.

Re: New pickups for stratocaster

It also depends on which ERA Gary Moore tone you're after...the "Still Got the Blues" era was definitely his LP w/Humbuckers, but his early "Corridors of Power" fusion/metal-era tone was a vintage Strat with singles...

welcome to the forum!!

if you did not want to get a new pickguard you could get single coil sized humbuckers like the lil 59 or hot rails. they dont sound exactly like a full size humbucker but they will give you more of the sound you are looking for than your stock single coils.

Re: New pickups for stratocaster

Thanks for the answers,

Well, I don't mind get a new pickguard... I'm looking for a fat sound like Gary's. If I must buy a new pickguard, no problem.

I know Still got the blues era was LP sound, I know that LP sound cannot be reproduce on a strat but I want a fat sound... the single coils of my strato don't give me the sound i'm looking for (it's too thin)so I thought put humbuckers in bridge and neck. What do you think about it?

If you could recommend me an exact model of pickup that looks like the sound i'm looking for(seymour duncan or whatever) i'd thank you.

PD:sorry for my english xD

Cheers,

Welcome to the forum! ... and your english is fine.

I've never listed to Gary Moore. I just looked him up on wiki. Looks like he used humbuckers most of the time (Les Pauls, Charvel, Ibanez, etc).

I don't know his tone I can't really comment on a specific pickup but it seems like you need either a new pickguard and install some humbuckers or as Jermey said, get a Hotrails or lil 59 since a single coil may not capture his tone. I have a Hotrails in my MIA Strat and I love it but it does have a fair amount of gain.

Can anyone else comment on Gary's overall tone? With such a long career he probably had a variety of tones and pickups.

I became aware of him right after Randy Rhoads' death, after hearing he had turned down the Ozzy gig...Before he went solo, he played with Thin Lizzy during the "Black Rose" era. "Corridors of Power" and "Victims of the Future" were his two biggest rock releases before "Still got the Blues" and he was using a '62 (if memory serves) Fiesta Red Strat more often than not. He's also known for Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac (pre- Lindsay/Stevie era) giving him his '59 LP Standard. I believe that is the one his signature model was based on...
I've never seen him with an Ibanez, but have seen him with Charvels in the day and mostly LPs these days....I saw him in '83, played the Strat the whole set...
If you'd like to hear one of the most menacing single-coil tones EVER, find "The End of the World" intro solo...still scary to this day...:D

Re: New pickups for stratocaster

Some people have recommended me Seymour Duncan Jazz for the neck pickup and Seymour Duncan JB TB-4 for the Bridge.

What do you think about it? Is a good choice?

Re: New pickups for stratocaster

If you are going with full sized Humbukers Duncan Custom and 59 neck will do well. Other wise lil59s
