New pickups

I am planning to buy new pickups for my hamer xt standard korina explorer. i look for it in sd website, and i found out that sh11 custom custom for the bridge and pearly gates for the neck. the problem is that hamer has a rosewood fingerboard, not ebony. description says: works especielly well with maple and ebony fingerboard.. so i am counfused there. the guitar has a maple body, with korina top, maple neck, and rosewood fingerboard. it comes loaded with stock duncan designed pickups ( jb&59). how goes rosewood fingerboard and those pickups (sh11 and pearly gates) together? what is the main difference of ebony and rosewood fingerboard? i really want to change pickups for something better in that guitar. i found out that designed jb on the bridge sounds too ****ing trebly, and the same is with 59 in some cases. so i look out and found those custom custom and pearly gates, but there is a doubt as i write rosewood - ebony fingerboards... the guitar itself is very good, it has a lot of sustain, and very comfortable neck, the type of body explorer so i don't wanna seel it. i just want better pickups for it. any suggestion?

Re: New pickups

If you think the 59 sounds trebly, I don't think I'd go for a PG neck? The Custom Custom sounds like a fairly safe bet though.

Ok. now i am just more confused about it. i think i'll go to a local service with that guitar and ask the specialist what the hell to do... or just seel the guitar and buy one sg with mahogany.

Re: New pickups

I have upgraded that guitar with SH11 Custom Custom in the bridge, and Pearly Gates on neck. Custom Custom can easily get to metal zone, when pearly gates in neck sound just amazing, it sounds warm, and is very cool for led zeppelin and guns'n'roses solos. and for zz top rhythm it definately sounds great ! it definetly not noiseless, i didn't have that problems yet. guitar now sounds better with this set, no noise issues at all ! and stock pickups were distortion mayhem designed not jb&59 ! i saw this when i remove pickups from guitar ! it was hb 103b and hb103n. thanks for suggestions it turns a little bit inn the other way. guitar sounds now cool, but deffinately more bright that my SG. the huge maple body gives a price on that. and it sounds a lot less bright but still the character of maple it there. but with new original seymour duncan alnico 2 pickups it is very well warm ballanced sound now. even with hi gain, that pickups sound just great. i am glad i solve the noise issues problems and now i like guitar a lot more, i enyoy in playing with no need to pull tone and volume controls the half way down and that **** as you read before i almost thinking of sell it but now: no way. problem solved :thanks:

You made a great PU choice for that guitar. CC's are are often too warm in mahogany, especially LP's, but with your bright woods, it's ideal. PGN was an excellent neck choice. Well done.
