How many guitars are you working on there ?:knockedou

Actually only one, I don't paint guitars, especially using Nitro. This was done by SouthBound Custom Finishes, they did an absolute killer job on my Tele so looking forward to the finished product in person on this Iceman. The body was just shipped today, should be in next week.

Man that’s gonna be killer.... love it already!

Thanks! I'm so looking forward to it! Really excited about the Bill Lawrences going in, should be quite the bass!

What kind of neck will be on that bass?

All Roasted Maple neck with Stainless Steel Frets.

Thank you so very much!

Didn't go Mary Kay--more of an Alpine White to try and get an Antique/Aged White.

Going with the White plus Creme Pickups and thought White would be better than Mary Kay.

Re: New Project - Warmoth Iceman Bass

Super fast shipping! Congrats to Southbound Custom Finishes!

Parts are in multiple places (gotta love moving several states over in the middle of a build.) Super thin Nitro finish that shows the wood grain so very well!

Need to order a nut, the bridge, the tuners and the electronics (already have the pickups) to be in business.

New Project - Warmoth Iceman Bass

Looking AWESOME!

Done!

I need to darken the volume and tone knobs a tad--any ideas?

Reddish-brown stain wiped over the plastic VERY lightly to darken toward the color of the pickups. Not penetrating stain like Minwax, but wiping stain like UGL/ZAR or a gel stain. The heavier bodied wiping/gel stain can be allowed to dry on a non-porous surface (although it may take a while), and can even be done in multiple coats... carefully so you don’t re-wet and pick up the previous coat(s). When you accomplish the color you want and the stain is VERY dry, spray a little clear lacquer over them to protect the color.

Thanks man! The paint is more grey than white BUT I am very pleased with the project so far (except for the speed.)

You rock! :yourock: Thank you for the suggestion, I will try that when I have some free time!

Re: New Project - Warmoth Iceman Bass

Long overdue update!

Been a super busy start to 2018 and projects ucb as these had been put on hold.

Got it all of the parts in Now and am slowly piecing it together. Gotta install the tuners and then wire up the pickups to finish this one up! (Besides stringing it up and setting up the action.)

Wow, I couldn't wait that long with the parts just sitting there...kudos to you! That looks amazing. I can't wait to hear about how it sounds.

Thanks! So ready to get everything finalized—will post a clip once it’s all rigged up!

Re: New Project - Warmoth Iceman Bass

That looks ace, can’t wait to see the finished bass and hear your thoughts.

Re: New Project - Warmoth Iceman Bass

Bass is done–had to get professional help on the wiring and setup.

First thoughts–I need to practice the bass more. lol

I absolutely love the pickups–very responsive and articulate. The roasted neck is very nice! The roasted body and neck make the bass pretty light (don't have a scale to weight.)

Overall–very pleased with the project. Changes I would have made–a V-profile neck if it was offered and the Mary Kay White color looks great but I was hoping for more of a white than the greyish-blue (but my other Roasted Swamp Ash guitar with the Mary Kay super thin nitro finish turned out about the same...greyish-blue.)

Uploaded the following clips–clean and dirty (via Garageband...not really digging the bass amp offerings there.) Quick side note, my little Yamaha THR10C has a "Bass" amp in it...sounds phenomenal. Really digging that Yamaha!

Dirty

Looks pretty damn good to me! How does it balance on the strap?

Thank you!

I haven't installed the strap buttons yet–haven't decided on precisely where I want to install them. Will report on the balance once it is installed! It does sit very comfortably!

Re: New Project - Warmoth Iceman Bass

I’ve always liked that body shape, but I really like the Fender style headstock instead of something more pointy... very cool combo.

Thanks! I'm the same way–really like the Fender headstock. The idea/concept came from an Iceman build that fellow member Muttznmongrelz built here.

I would have preferred more of a "white" color than the greyish but I think it came out nicely anyways.
