New PUPs and volume pots

I'm having the PUPs replaced in my 84 Yamaha SA2100 (semi-hollow, similar to a 335) with a Custom 5 (B) and 59 (N) both have gold covers w/4 condictior to incorporate the coil splitters (push/push). It was suggested that I change the volume pots since everthing has to pulled out anyway. I don't know what "K" value the existing are. Based on what I have read 500K for HBs is typical, if the existing are 500K should I change them for newer ones? any suggestions/opinions are appreciated, thanks.

I have an 80's (83 I think) SG2000 and Im about to do the same thing! If you want to keep the coil taps and the pots are NOT scratchy you could leave them. If you don't want the coil tap options or they are getting scratchy then get new ones. They ARE 500k and if you replace them (I would replace them no matter what...it's just a good idea) spend the extra money and get CTS pots...it's worth it!

I'm glad to see another Yamaha SG/SA fan around here!

What are orange drop caps and what do they do?

Orange Drops are caps...inyour Yamaha you have a little green cap or 2, the orange drops will go where these little green caps are and they will sound much better.

500 vs 250, i should note that my sa2100 is a very bright sounding guitar as is, I'm assuming that it is the jap pickups, and that after i install the SD's (59N, Custom5B) I would loose some of the brightness, is it possible that part of the reason may be the guitar itself and that 250K may be better to curb that brightness?.
