New PUPS For Epi Les Paul??

Re: New PUPS For Epi Les Paul??

you answered your own question, pal.

You said the 490/498 combo in the LP studio gave you what you wanted... so why not try that set out on the Epiphone? I've had great success on my Epi Lesters.

you can pick a used set for cheap on ebay

... and re-sell them for what you spent (or more, sometimes)!

I hear ya.

I just hate to see some stock gibson humbuckers get ripped out and never used

So i recycle them :D

I'm leaning to either Pearly Gates set, or a set of sh-1 59s for what you may like to try out.

Re: New PUPS For Epi Les Paul??

Is it really that bright? I was thinking the 59 would better because its less bright than the pgn, am I mistaken? An overly bright neck is something Id like to avoid.

I find the '59 to be quite a bit brighter than the PG. The '59 seems to have more lows but it is more scooped than the PG. The highs are easy to control with the tone knob however.

Maybe you should be considering the A2P Slash.

Re: New PUPS For Epi Les Paul??

Buy used '59's and stick an A4 magnet in the neck and an A8 in the bridge and you'll thank me.

Re: New PUPS For Epi Les Paul??

Well I just ordered the 59 neck and the custom 5 for the bridge. I figure if they are not quite right I'll do a magnet swap, but we'll see.

And while Im posting, I don't know if anyone's seen this thing before, but I found a really cool image generator for Les Pauls...check it out here http://www.frankmontag.com/

It sold me on the Zebra pups:).

Re: New PUPS For Epi Les Paul??

I'm running a Mustaine active set in my axe. After using them for a while, I prefer the Jazz neck to to the JB bridge for lead work. A lot less of a cutting edge, but more personality and fullness.. if you know what I mean. I liked the '59 in the neck position for much the same reason.
I use the Metal Live Wire sets in most of the rest of my trem axes. Don't know how they'd sound in the Epi Les Paul, as I haven't tried them there.

That's a great combo. You may need to throw a A4 or A2 in that pup if you don't like it as it is. 59 is an awesome neck pup. A4 to lessen the bass or A2 to get more mids and round out the highs a bit. Awesome pup!!! Mixed with a C5??? Forget about it!!! Awesome
