New Quarter Pounder In Tele

Hi

I've just replaced the original pickup in my squire telecaster with a quarter pounder.

It sounds amazing compared to the original. All the horrible harshness is gone.

Just one query about it though.

I've never done this before. And my soldering isn't amazing generally. So I've noticed that the volume is pretty much the same as the neck pickup and when reading up before i bought this pickup I got the impression it would be noticeably louder than the old one which it isn't.

Just wondering if that is normal for this kind of guitar?

You could always check the DCR at the jack to see if it is wired correctly. I know some QPs are tapped, and have an extra wire in the middle of the windings.

Not sure if it's the same for tele, but the QP for strat that I have is quite a fire breather of a pickup which makes me expect it to be at least a little higher output than a regular output neck pickup. Doubt it's a soldering problem though. How far are the pickups adjusted away from the strings? Typically a bridge is set up to be a bit closer to the strings than a neck. If your neck is closer that could account for the volumes being about the same (in which case you just raise the bridge to get a little more output if you want a louder bridge sound).

The neck pickup is about the same height as the bridge one. I never use it though. I'll maybe wind it down a bit and see what kind of tones I get with both pickups.

I'll try measuring the dcr as well. There's a multimeter lurking somewhere around here.
