in the new guitar world they have this feature on evh's new frankenstrat reproduction, it jus says its with fender but im asuuming it will be under charvel, didnt see anything yet on mass marketing it, but god i hope so.

Re: new reproductions of the frankenstrat...HELL YEAH

$30K - Crazy!!!!!!

Re: new reproductions of the frankenstrat...HELL YEAH

for $700 in quality USAGC or Warmoth parts you could throw one together..... but still Charvel makes the best necks shape ever... I always wondered if the Frankie had a wider neck pocket as EVH had some Charvel necks on there at one time.... Makes me wonder if the neck pocket is to Fender specs, or Charvels....

I love the ever so slightly wider Charvel heel on their necks... They also help with Vintage trems that have a huge string spacing

Re: new reproductions of the frankenstrat...HELL YEAH

its only a limited run of 300 though. so i would start trying to figure out how to preorder them if your gonna spend 25-30 grand on it.

Re: new reproductions of the frankenstrat...HELL YEAH

For that kinda money, I'd order about a dozen different GMW's and have money left over :)

Re: new reproductions of the frankenstrat...HELL YEAH

these stupid things are all sold out as far as i heard. that means there are 300 suckers out there that bought a $20-$30K copy of a mutt that had a rattle can paint job and routes that were done with a chisel LOL.

ya it is so strange eh..... But to many VH fans that was the guitar many a young boy/girl dreamed of owning in the day... so i wonder if a few hundred of them have grown up and made some millions on the stock market or something.... fat chance... it's more likely rich bankers and off shore collectors that grabbed these up in hope to make money selling them down the road..

and the parts themselves didnt ammount to 1% of that price

Re: new reproductions of the frankenstrat...HELL YEAH

Yeah the price is ridiculous.

Oh really? How much does Fender sell their Masterbuilt Limited Edition Replicas for? Or Gibson their high end reliced player replicas? And the last Fender run (Clapton Blackies) sold out in what, 20 minutes?

It is rumored that these will be the ultimate EVH frankenstein replica, and that EVH will hand test (or already has considering the current date) every one to make sure they feel exactly like the original. The idea is that even he shouldn´t be able to tell the difference. If true and it´s actually accomplished, that in itself is an absolutely awesome feat of luthierie that no player will EVER truly understand and value accordingly. But that alone I would honestly value at around 20K, just in my invested time and labor. And I or most other smaller luthiers probably couldn´t do anywhere near the kind of job these guys can becasue their resources are limitless in comparison (Including direct, hands on access to both the actual guitar and the artist themself, something NO other replica maker can offer or ever could) :saeek:

Just because some players don´t see the merit in a product (that was never targeted at them anyway) doesn´t make it any lower in quality or less labor intensive than a product such as a PRS Private Stock or similarly ultra-eye candy guitar that is essentially still a basic guitar with more bling. Making a perfect replica (or as close as humanly possible) of ANY heavily played guitar is equally as tedious and masterful as building a guitar with more bling than West Coast Customs. In many ways it´s even more difficult, because when adding random bling you can mess up and say it was on purpose if it still looks good. There´s no room for that on a replica.

Interesting Side notes: John Walker of JCMI and now FMIC has apparently been collecting real 1977 quarters ( or ´71 or whatever, I´m not one of the screw counters) for over 2 years. And IIRC he was also sourcing outrageously expensive (thanks to EVH fans) old cans of Schwinn bicycle paint for the longest time. I think that alone says volumes about the attention to detail that is going into these and resulting price. Or he collects quarters and has a few old Schwinns he wants to restore :laugh2:

There are also pics out of the Jackson CS from a few years back that show a few guitars that seemed to be exactly this, with reflectors on the back and all. Now that of course begs the question of "were those guitars scrapped, or have they just been working on them all this time?"

I think it will be very interesting to see what happens when these are introduced at NAMM (assuming it really happens). AFAIK they´re already sold out, anyway.

Not under Charvel. The are creating a new EVH brand that they will be released under. Fender is doing the mfg and I think the Charvel guys did the work on the new Franky but its being released under the EVH brand.

The article kind of sounded like the pedals and stuff may get moved under that brand as well

Re: new reproductions of the frankenstrat...HELL YEAH

I remember back in the day EVH wanted Kramer to release the same guitar, a reproduction of his Frankenstrat. After much thought Kramer decided not to, deciding they didn't want to produce "a piece of junk".

In any event, people have been making Frankie replicas for years, there's one guy that has had access to Eddie's guitars and has made the most accurate replicas ever. Fender recently approached him- he's now not allowed to sell completed guitars or paint the EVH pattern, but he will sell you the detailed necks and bodies, and he has instructions on how to paint it like the EVH's original guitars. And his guitars are built better than the original, which was essentially a butchered strat.

Not only that, but there's the issue of the neck. Fender copied the neck Clapton always had on Blackie. On EVH's Frankenstrat, he's had a Fender neck, Mighty Mite, Charvel (which I beleive they had to widen the neck pocket to 2 1/14", Kramer Beak headstock, Kramer Bannana Headstock, with 2 3/16" heels, leaving a gap in the neck pocket, requiring 2 additional neck mounting screws under the neck attackment plate for stability. The nut widths varied from 1 5/8- 1 3/4.

My understanding is that the EBMM Axis neck was a digital copy of his Kramer 1984, which was his favorite.

Then there's the Floyd Rose, His original Frankie 2 had pre production Floyds, one without fine tuners, one with fine tuners, then there were the production Floyds which were built differently.

My point? EVH's Frankenstrat has been through so many changes that it's impossible to really make a true replica that's worth $30,000. Regardless, there will be buyers and they will sell.

I've seen Fender's and Gibson's aged replicas, and a Tom Murphy aged Les Paul looks like it's 50 years old. The Fender SRV and Rory Gallager guitars looked too fake, and I suspect so will this new EVH guitar.

Re: new reproductions of the frankenstrat...HELL YEAH

If some fans are that in love with the guy, they should just sell used EVH condoms from the 1984 tour, they would probably sell for around 5k. :laugh2:
