New S-S-S

Edit: I guess you're right. You can do that on guitar, but it's hardcore.

In general, guitarists usually don't play bass, chord, and lead simultaneously. In composed pieces and extremely high level improv playing there will be bass, chord, and lead executed overlapping each other at different times to simulate that effect. While it's commonplace, and part of the tradition and normal facility of playing organ.

Guitarists don't do this:

300 euro with case. Completely stock and near mint.

Sounds like a sweet deal. I paid about the same for this one, but without a case..

Sabre's are love it/hate it sort of guitars. But if it's something that gels with you, you won't find a better put together or playing axe :bigthumb:

It is. It's a fun instrument since you can play bass, chord, and lead at the same time. I also like the fat tone since I'm a bassman.

Sure that's assuming everyone wants to play bass, chord & lead.

Personally..like a lot of other players out there..( Malmsteen, Vai, Gilbert etc) I prefer to stick w/ lead... :bigthumb:

You play w/ your organ nicely :bigthumb:

One niggling little thing about the 870 I just got....it absolutely REEK's of cologne. Stinks of the stuff. (Yeah, I am not a cologne kinda guy & prefer to smell as nature intended. In fact I have a pretty strong dislike for it. It gives me a headache)

Whoever owned it before obviously liked to douse himself head-to-toe with some seriously strong shit. It's been out there in the open on a guitar stand for close to a week now and it's still ponging. What do I do????? :lmao:

I suspect when the perfume smell goes away, it will be replaced by a smoke smell.

Non-smoker here ...last 20 years :D

Not going to happen unless my 15yr old is puffing away somewhere i don't know about ::laugh2:

Some slow blues with my AMT Stonehead:

What color is your S540ltd? This is my black 97. The neck has a skunk stripe. I've owned several of these and never saw a skunk stripe one.

Early on, you could get them in green and red. But later on they only made them in black and blue. IMG20230904100615.jpg

I think Frank Falbo had one in neon yellow...

Mine's '(94 model)) the same colour as your's.. I remember them having a couple of flame tops as the store I bought it from... one blue and one green if I remember correctly...(did'nt get them cuz they had gold hardware) and that's the way it's been ever since...all black one's

That is....UNTIL NOW!!!!!!

Mine does'nt have a skunk stripe. I think those came a few years later....

I swapped out the original Quantum (QM) pups for a pair of Sin Pickups "Seventh Sin" Alnico 4 pup's made by a dude called Chris Carter who made (makes?) some great pups that he winds himself..

And the one in the middle is a SD Hotrails (n) pup

I swapped out the Quantums for Evolutions. Sold the Quantums on ebay, but I remembered liking them, so I found another set a few years ago and put them back in.

My tastes in humbuckers I guess have become more mainstream and I liked the thicker bottom of the Quantums and the rolled top end. This particular s540 seems bright and jangly on top, which may be because its mahogony.

The Quantums are not that different from some of the other pickups I use like the D-Sonic and Duncan Custom. Its weird to discover that after running the gauntlet of pickup swaps that I'm quite content with middle of the road generic hot pickups.

I also bought a "new" Quantum, which has different DCR but sounds very similar. I like that one too. I have also bought and tried out some of the Ibanez INF pickups and liked them.

My other 97 s540qm doesn't have a skunk stripe. This is the only one I've seen with it, but they may have been common on the ltds.

I still have my old Quantum's in my parts drawer. They were decent pups just really "generic" sounding as you stated...I don't see the Sinbucker's coming out and those QM's going back in anytime soon tbh.

The INF's in the new one are kinda nice very thick, meaty ceramic sounding pup's..a lot of chirp/pick-attack & bite too. It's my first time trying them out and they're pretty sweet..

The new Quantum's I really love. I think they're actually pretty excellent sounding pup's..very full-sounding & musical but precise & articulate too.

I had it wired in briefly, but don't remember it sounding appreciably different than the originals even though the DCR was different. It was in a different guitar so that may have masked the differences.

All the ones (new Quantum's) i have are noticeably smoother, glassier, more elastic/rounder (less typically ceramic sounding.. not saying I dislike ceramics cuz I don't. but ceramics sound like ceramics and the newer Quantum's don't have that typical ceramic sound like the old ones did) & they're a tad brighter/livelier than I remember my old Quantum's being. They're also very clear/articulate in the mids while the old ones (and maybe even the INF's) have a lot less detail..

The INF bridge pup in my colourful new maple/mahogany S870 vs. the new Quantum bridge in my black Meranti S520

Theyr'e both pretty different sounding axes...

Can't wait to hear what the other two Sabre's sound like when they get in...
