New S-S-S

I need to change the strings on my old S540 ..they are long dead. But then I'll add that to the comparison..maybe my green SA too..

New strings on my S 540... "7th Sin" bridge pup

Vs. my Okoume SA460 w/ a Quantum..

Cuz tey're fun to play :bigthumb:

Neoclassical on the neck with my new S870...

OK, Deleted cuz it sucked...

I'm thinking of swapping out the stock INF pup's...but for what???

Got a Dimarzio TZ in the parts drawer also a Duncan custom & a '59 bridge..one of them should take care of the bridge..& maybe my Dean DMT Hands without shadows in the neck,,,,,,,,,,let's see.

Anyway, Moved on to 'V2' below w/ my trusty old 540LTD...

I think if messing with the height of the pups in the 870 does'nt work they could do with being swapped out...they're a bit harsh & not too clear with the faster stuff..

And with ye olde 540...

Could this just be the fastest axe ever built....maybe..

^^ Next up, I'll try and match that nippiness with my green SA...really, that's the only axe I've ever touched that's in the ballpark speed-wise...maaaaaaayyybbe...my Charvel or my Jackson (kickass shredder's ..both of them) ....just maybe...but it honestly most probably comes down to these two Ibby's...

The S870 plays well, but it needs a pup swap & the black Meranti S520 I just got is actually a damn good contender too..plays like greased lightning. I just have'nt played it enough yet..

Between you and me...I was beginning to worry a bit about arthritis for a while there...runs in my mother's side of the family, her cousin had it from the time she was in her early thirties, my grand-ma- was bedridden cuz of it for years before she passed and and my mum had it too, but the cancer got her before it got too bad..

And lately, my digits have'nt been feeling as supple as they used to and it's had me worried, I kid you not. So it's heartening to see that they can still nip along pretty briskly ^^ after all & bring the shredz... :bigthumb:

Oh yeah...forgot about my Cort's...those can rip things up pretty good. So can my RG's (though my Sabre's have the edge) & ...of all things, my Grote!

And....I almost forgot, I do have two more Sabre's on the way...both played in a bit & hopefully fast as fuck...now that should be interesting ::naughty:

There is a limit to how many guitars I can responsibly own. Maintaining 5-7 is about as much as I can handle. When I go above that, I start thinking I dont need them all and let some go.

In priniciple I agree w/ that (but only in principle)

Some guitar players collect cars, some snort 1000's of $$$ worth of coke up their noses, and some collect guitar's (in my case mostly cheap to mid-priced one's), I guess choice # 3 is the most responsible one (& the most fun)...

At least I play the living shit out of them (especially the one's I really like),,,not just discuss them/talk about them..

Sure, maintenence is'nt easy but I try and keep them all in good playing shape the best I can. I only have two that are unplayable right now .sadly my Jackson (screw broke off and stuck in the tremolo) & one of my older Cort's (also needs a new Floyd special bridge)..and yeah maintaining strings is the biggest problem, but I get it done by & large...

While I will not own one of these baby's in my lifetime..it's my dream S (and guitar in general)

latest

I used to have five S guitars at one point. Sold three of them. The small body isn't my thing. They are resonant but they don't have much bass. I have two that I keep for sentimental reasons and because they are well crafted guitars.

Well, I will soon have 10 :laugh2:

My old 540 does'nt lack for anything tone-wise...certainly no lack of bass. (I play in a doom band, most often w/ my 540..at least earlier on). Of the new ones I bought, the Okuome SA is probably the brightest....though I stilll would'nt say it lacks bass..the Meranti S520 s pretty bassy,,,probably the bassiest of all the 6 string S's I have. The S870 sits in the middle..

My two 7 string S7420's have really nice, full, deep chunky bass & absolutely gorgeous thick fluid lead tones...honestly when it comes to Sabers...they leave me wanting nothing.

My S7420 ( 7 string w/ a ZR trem)

I've alway's preferred Saber's to RG's (or almost anything else out there)

I mean if Carcass could bang out Necrotism & Heartwork on them, you know they can be heavy..

A bit of shred-time before bedtime last night w/ my Meranti S520..

Another sweet axe for the shredz ...but imo my old 540 still has the edge...

Next up should be the okoume SA (needs a string change first)

And I will say the SA is no slouch either. They appeared a few years later & feature a slightly thicker slab of wood w/ a flat back & cutaway vs. the Sabre's round one..

Changed the strings on my SA460 ..and gave it a go / the same track...

It's a mega shredding axe...but somehow things are always more effortless with my old 540...

It (SA) IS pretty effortless as well too though :lmao:

I think once you have axes that are 100% built to shred...anything that sets them apart beyond that just boils down to mojo :bigthumb:

New toy S09LTD1 :bigthumb:

S09Ltd.jpg

Came in yesterday w/o warning...I seriously had no idea cuz the store/seller had'nt contacted me at all. Lucky I was around when it came. Lol, who am I kidding I'm always around. one of the benefits of havng no life :lmao:

Anyway. This thing is MINT. I mean absolutely untouched. I don't think the guy even changed he original strings. They looked like they had survived Chernobyl...rusty cruddy & one was broken. So I gave the fretboard a bit of the good old Gorgomyte treatment. Changed the strings and that's it. It was !00% ready to rock!

Did'nt need to do a thing to it. I think it was set up this way at the factory. Absolutely flawless. Silky smooth feel, Nice low action. awesome tone. This is built like a Prestige ...it oozes superior build quality and class. The back is beautiful, the neck is beautiful, the front is gorgeous...can't believe I picked it up for a song. Brilliant guitar....a real player too. I love it when I get this lucky with a score (not often) :laugh2:
