... Just remember to run a wire from the pots otherwise it´s for naught ;)

Your PRS is almost certainly factory shelded ;)

From the pots to where?

PS- I added a ground from the volume pot to the tone pot and it helped it. Its still louder than my PRS but its not "theres something wrong" loud. I still want to explore shielding, is there something I can get from walmart? I thought about aluminum foil, but I wanted to wait for some input from pros.

To the shield you just installed ;)

Aluminim foil won´t work because there´s no adhesive on the back... I recommend spending a dollar more from the beginning and doing it right instead of sopending a dollar less but spending it twice, it´s cheaper ;)

And HELLO, Guys, good morning: He´s getting noise when he LIFTS his hand off the strings, the strings (wire to the trem claw) HAVE to be grounded or nothing would change at all

All my wiring experience tells me that is a bad ground. When his hand is touching the strings the noise stops because HE is acting as the ground. When he removes his hand the noise returns becasue of the faulty ground. That mess of wires on the back of the pot can't br grounded well. This happens almost every time I change pickups...I REALLY need to get a 45w iron.

What should I do about the wires?

I´m not sure "bad" is the word, but may be improvable for sure, as the pot experiment showed (why that wasn´t grounded I´ll never know)...

Ehm, well, yes, of course, I´d be VERY concerned if it weren´t that way.... After all, this is the engineering reason for the string ground?? This is the reason we can get shocked over our amps, and the reduction of hum is the entire reason it´s there...Or am I missing something?

When he removes his hand the noise returns becasue of the faulty ground.
If by faulty you mean no ground , yes, BECAUSE he´s not touching the strings.... Again, this is the reason that wire was ever put there

Something tells me either one of us is missing something or we´re talking right past each other saying the same thing in different ways the other doesn´t recognize as such.... :smack:

Here I agree, the twisted jumble on the tone pot could ne neater, but it doesn´t really look like a cold loint in any way...... *edit* on second look, you may really want to take a look at that joint if nothing else as a preventive measure... I originally thought the small protrudance in teh front was bonded to the pot casing, but it looks more like blobbed on top after closer examination.....

But the "good morning" comment was just a wake up call that if the string ground to the trem claw wasn´t hooked up, then nothing COULD POSSIBLY change when he removed his hand from the strings, as they are no longer a contact point for the circuit with that wire disconnected... the trem claw is a wild goose chase ;)

I see, I missed that the first time. I toally agree with you. :)

Fixed it! I went to walmart, got some spray adhesive, took everything out, sprayed it, installed foil as a shield in the electronics cavity and pickup cavities, redid some solder points (got rid of the blob, now everything has its own place) and replaced the porcelain cap with a coated cap (the porcelain cap really buzzed when something touched it). Its quieter than my PRS now. Not exaggerating, it really is as quite as can be and the sound is every bit as good. Let me know if you want any details or pics. I'm a happy man.

I was able to help, that´s enough for me :)
Oops, I forgot,
Thanks everyone, I got some solid advice here and I appreciate it.
