New speaker day

Re: New speaker day

So far Nacho is half right. Ill upload the pics and maybe some clips tomorrow. And zzmoore it's based on that speaker and in the same vein but not as loud or heavy as a EV.

Re: New speaker day

Was that for your Club 40? What kind of tone were you looking for with this one? I happen to be in the process of choosing an "all around" speaker, something good for clea, overdrive, crunch and high gain, I think your club 40 was versatile.

Re: New speaker day

Yes it's for the 40. I chose it because from the reviews it works great for everything short of the more extreme forms of metal. The other speakers I still might try are the WGS12L (EV12L clone) and maybe a Celestion Lynch Back speaker George Lynch's sig speaker or the the Celestion Neo speakers or the Jenson Neo offerings.

The BlackHawk HP is supposedly based on the EV SRO. I haven't really played it at a loud vol or for that long but one thing I will say is the feel is very different from the 70/80 it replaced. It's also has a certain sweetness (roundness) to it in the highs. Think of Santana or Slash lead type of tones. I'm not sure if I like it 100% just yet although most guitarist would.

To answer your question I wasn't really looking for a certain tone I just wanted a clean, clear speaker that didn't color the sound to much and didn't hide any frequencies. I wanted everything to come through. I think you would be more than pleased with the BH HP speaker. Now mind you the HP version and regular Blackhawk are based on two different speakers. Also I ordered mine from their B-stock so it was 25% percent off of the regular price. Including shipping I paid close to 200$ for it.

Edit: Some may find the speaker a bit dark in voicing but it has a lot of low end with a bit of roundedness and smoothness in the highs.

Re: New speaker day

You put that in a DSL40C? I bought one a few weeks ago from a guy who had put a WGS Liberator in. I don't know much about it but it does sound better than the ones in the store I've played. I don't hear any shrill or brittle highs with mine. Interesting that you both chose WGS for replacements.

Re: New speaker day

Not a DSL but a Blackstar HT40 1x12 combo. I looked at the Liberator awhile back but decided it's not what I was after. Glad you like it though.
