New speaker for my Peavey Bandit

Hey I was wondering if some of you Peavey Bandit user's could gimme your input. I have had for awhile a Peavey TransTube II Bandit that I scored from a panshop. The amp has always sounded great but this past week the sound coming from the amp has been bad. It sounds all scratchy and unstable and I can hear the coil vibrating big time like total crap on the clean channel when I play it, I'm also starting to notice it on the gain channel aswell. I have already called Peavey to get a price for a replacement 12'' Sheffield speaker for the amp and it's going to run me around $100. I was just wondering if any of you Bandit user's could recommend to me if I should use another speaker to make this amp really shine or should I just buy another Sheffield speaker? I know there are alot of other speaker companies out there who put out pretty decent replacement speakers for the same price so I just thought I would ask and see before I shell out the money on the stock speaker.

Eminence, Swamp Thang, Tonker or Governor. I personally wouldn't spend a hundred plus on a $300 amp. I'd be in the market for a new better tube amp, which I am.

Yeah, I used a Transtube for a while and I wouldn't spend any money upgrading the amp or even replacing parts. I would just start saving for a tube amp even a small one like a Blackstar HT-5, Marshall Class 5, Vox AC4TV, Fender Pro Junior etc.

If you need one to gig with get a Classic 30 or an amp from Peavey. They sound good for the money and they last a long time.

Hey, if you like the amp, by all means upgrade it. . .don't let nobody tell you no.

Tube vs SS amps. . .kinda like pc vs mac. .

Re: New speaker for my Peavey Bandit

Cos its an ss amp it would be worth getting something as warm as possible like a cannabis rex to hold the bottom together and smooth the highs. There is no way a stock peavey bandit speaker is worth 100 bucks - they are a cheaply produced speaker to fit into a cheap amp. Do not waste your money on another sheffield whatever you do!
A cannabis rex will make a bandit sound better even if there is nothing actually wrong with the original speaker. If you decide later to upgrade to a different amp - you will always have a good 12 inch speaker in your arsenal. Cannabis rexes also sound great with something like a fender hot rod deluxe or even a peavey classic 30 so it will be a good speaker for the long term - its better than the stock speakers in either of those amps also.
