New Tele Project Incoming

FINALLY! I'm slapping together a Tele. Last night I ordered what I needed and hope to see it all later this week. I decided to keep the Strat neck I was going to sell. Sure, there's gonna be a gap at the corners but I'm not worried about it. In fact, the 22nd fret overlay will cover it.

The body is Mighty Mite Butterscotch Ash, bridge is Wilkinson compensating with 3 brass saddles, Electrosocket jack plate, Seymour Duncan Broadcaster bridge pickup and the neck is from Warmoth; maple/maple, boatneck contour. I've got a control plate and other hardware on hand so this should go together rather smoothly. I'm going to wire it up like a standard Tele for now as I'm not sure if I'm going to put a neck pickup in it yet and also no pickguard right now either. Once I decide, it will be a black guard either way.

On paper, this should all come together really slick. Let's hope so. Here's stock pics of the body and bridge until I get it all in and together.

Grab a cocked wah wiring kit for an esquire and keep it one pup. When you flick the selector and stomp on a distortion/fuzz, it's like instant woman tone. Very cool. I do the same thing with my 335S, roll the tone off manually though.

Rich_S approves of this thread, especially your choice of bridge.

Peghead shape not so much.

Not a bad idea. I actually do this now with the SG Jr. No neck pickup so I roll back the tone to get a pseudo neck tone. It works. I'm sure I can find schematics online to make that work with the 3-way toggle though.

Edit: Cocked wah mod (Eldred Mod) - http://www.axecaster.co.uk/images/Wiring/Eldred%20Mod.png

Hahaha. Well, the neck I happen to have already. :)

Re: New Tele Project Incoming

The body and other parts are scheduled for delivery this Thursday. Last night I wired up the control plate using Eldred's Mod. I still have to put the rolloff cap on and will be picking up one of those today as I couldn't find a 4700pf cap in my stash. In fact, I don't have any caps near that small. I'll most likely run a bridge ground as well even though it won't be completely necessary since the Broadcaster has a baseplate. In fact, I'm probably going to use an eyelet on one end, attach it between the pickup baseplate and the spring and solder the other end to the output jack ground lug. Until then, I wait for UPS to deliver the parts.....

That's gonna look Classically Cool! I almost bit on a "Snakehead" Replica a few weeks back at the local MGR; it was made from Warmoth Parts @ $369.99 with that same Wilky Bridge and a Fralin Pickup of some sort.

Re: New Tele Project Incoming

"Out For Delivery". That status that everybody loves...lol.

Re: New Tele Project Incoming

Have the Greasebucket mod on my Tele and it is pretty useful , easy to do also.

Re: New Tele Project Incoming

Can't wait for it to arrive! Post pics!

Me neither. Got a bit of soldering left to do as well. I've been curious about the Broadcaster pickup so this is a great opportunity to finally give it try. The plan is to have this as a backup for my band's gig Saturday night.

So much for having the Tele ready. They sent the wrong body. Got an ash Strat unfinished and routed dual humbuckers. Already got an email in to them about it. Might call in the morning too. Was looking forward to having this together for our gig.

Re: New Tele Project Incoming

This looks awesome.

Is the boatneck contour the 1" V? How do you like it compared with say a 1" U shape?

I am excite for photos

Yes, the boatneck is the 1" V. I prefer it over the U shape. It just works better for my hands. The U shape is nice but almost too much. I'd go with that on a slightly thinner profile.

Re: New Tele Project Incoming

Excellent looking guitar! I am putting together my second tele build from Warmoth as well. I'm also in the status of out for delivery - awesome. Curious to see how your build comes together.

Re: New Tele Project Incoming

Me too once I get the right body. I got a return shipping label last night after hours, which I thought was great. Now to get the right one on its way. The pickup is mounted in the bridge and I have a ring tab on one of the back screws for the bridge ground to be soldered to. Just one less thing to do when the body gets here.

Re: New Tele Project Incoming

Have you used a MM body before? I always wondered about them, they are priced right.

A long time ago I played a few that some friends had slapped together with MM parts. They were nice. Then they had a phase of not being so good but have seemed to turn things around from what I've heard from a few luthier friends.

If you look for my post in the "Show off Your Tele" thread, you'll see a sunburst Tele I put together - the body and neck are both Mighty Mite. Sounds great.

Sent from my iPad using a bunch of electrons, copper, and probably some fiber optic cable
