New To ISO For Pedal Power.....

Greetings,,, Is it safe to use the 12v & 18v outputs on standard 9v pedals, essentially giving me power for 6 9v pedals? thnx

Joking aside,, of all my pedals, only 3 can safely and/or recommended for 18v,, my 2 Xotic BB preamp pedals, & my 3-Leaf Wonderlove... fyi....
 
The 9v/2v outputs are internally bridged on the ISO5 - and if you use both at the same time it will cause noise. You would be better off just getting one of those power splitter cables and daisy chaining off the 9v part of the supply. Trutone makes a converter to let you can change the 18 v output into a 9 vold output as well. Be careful though - those voodoo lab iso 5 power bricks are very poorly built. Neither of the two that I had actually output 18v from the port, and both developed weird noise issues. Just using a 1-spot with daisy chain was a significant upgrade over the iso 5 brick - and voodoo labs knows about/doesn't care about the problem.
 
I agree it's a better idea to daisychain the power off your 300mA 9V output. Daisychain connectors are cheap.
Many digital pedals don't like sharing power so it's probably best to give each its own isolated power if you can.
However drive pedals usually don't mind - and most draw very little current, so you can run many on a single feed.

For reference purposes:
Most drive pedals are okay at 18V - exceptions being those with an internal charge pump, like klones or the Purple Plexi.
Most other pedals are not okay at 18V, especially digital ones. Nothing digital should be fed more voltage than it's spec'd for.

I've seen this before, and it's somewhat odd. All pedals get a common ground through the input/output connectors. So why not power? Even though I think I know something about electronics, I still don't get this.

I have no idea why. It's been true for me on more than one occasion though.
Nowadays I just give each digital pedal its own isolated power.

Most compressors work great at higher voltages too.

I'm not sure I agree with "most drive pedals are ok at 18 volt". Mxr and boss are not nor are tubescreamers. It's changing to be sure, but I suggest checking what the mfg has to say about it
