New (to me) Gibson design.

Re: New (to me) Gibson design.

I applaud them for trying to reach the younger market segment, it's the future. They should take it a step further and offer HSH and HSS PU configurations, and offer wild colored finishes.

Agreed, if they are gonna do it, they should go all the way to get the kids who really dig that style... Those options might really help them market that model...

Re: New (to me) Gibson design.

No.

You don't.

You buy <products> that are made in America because <those products> are superior to in quality to <imported products>.

The second you, as a manufacturer, start thinking that consumers will "buy the product that was made in America because it was made in America" is the second you lose your ass to an overseas-based competitor.

Don't believe me?

Visit Detroit some time.

Hah...dude...$1500 Gibsons are the same if not better quality than any $1500 import guitar...i definitely dig your auto industry example and can just as easily use it for my argument...if you buy the chinese guitar for $600 instead of the American guitar for $1500, Gibson will be our GMC...difference here being, i don't know any $600 imports that are as good as $1500 Gibsons...not ones that don't at least need new pickups or have some major count against them like 3-piece necks and poly finishes...

This thing is gonna be just as cool as any $1500 pointy ESP or Ibanez straight from Japan...so now you have the option to get a pointy American guitar and support our economy during a depression.

Those ESP's are gonna be multi-piece tight-bonded bodies, too, but your hard-earned dollar's just getting converted to Yen.

Anway we all know this is a moot point because Gibson's true priority should be bringing back the Geckoburst and adding a pinkish / purple burst, something like 'sangriaburst' and finally giving us a Les Paul with a built-in bong.

Here's my problem with that - Gibson guitars aren't cheap, even by a long shot. Their cheapest models are the faded finish series, and those are $600 or so. So, the younger market segment may be a great segment to appeal to, but unless the guitar is sub-$1000, and sub-$1000 by a significant amount, there's no way the market this guitar is supposedly designed for will ever be able to afford this.

It's why, if you're looking for an expensive, high quality guitar, you're going to have your work cut out finding one that has the same edgy, maybe-our-designers-smoke-meth styling that's prevalent in the mid-range market. For the most part, the cheapies just copy the icons, so mid-range is really the only place I see those guitars.

Personally? I would like it if it had a different control layout and look to the pickups than my $150 les paul starter guitar. And if it was a bit more radical and out there. It's a good starting point, but it leaves a lot to be desired in its current state.

Re: New (to me) Gibson design.

I think Gibson finally designed a competitor to its previous "can opener" model, the Corvus.

I don't know if you actually believe what you're saying or if you're just incapable of conceding an argument, and I don't care. You stopped making sense two posts ago, and I'm bored now.

Re: New (to me) Gibson design.

I'm more than happy to concede an argument, man, but it has to be convincing.

You're saying metal kids would buy crappier import guitars if they want something pointy because they're cheaper...which is true BUT...I'm saying it's cool that those kids have the option to support the country they live in and still get a ridiculously sharp guitar if that's what they want.

You implied in your post containing that argument that the cheaper import will somehow be the same or better than the USA-made Gibson...using the auto industry as an example...and i don't feel that's accurate. Even the best $600 imports i've played had multipiece bodies and necks and thick poly finishes...whereas even the $600 USA Gibsons have one-piece necks and are finished in nitro...

So you can take your ball and go home if that's the attitude you wanna cop, man, but I stand by what i said...this thing ain't my style but it's gonna be as good if not better than any $1500 import...

Re: New (to me) Gibson design.

This is why you buy subsidiary lines! Just like Fender which owns...

"Fender®, Squier®, Guild®, Gretsch®, Jackson®, Charvel®, EVH®, SWR® and Groove Tubes®, among others. " (Fender Website-Resources-About Fender).

Re: New (to me) Gibson design.

or you just leave the smoke and mirrors be and use your guitar building company to build guitars with no bull****.

Fender buys and uses other successful franchises to limit their own competition because nobody was buying HM Strats when there were Charvels on the wall.

Gibson's other franchises besides Epiphone are kinda mysterious to me...dunno why they bought Steinberger if they're not gonna make any transtrem SG's.

Don´t forget Hamer, Ovation and the other former members of the Kaman group ;)

Re: New (to me) Gibson design.

Historically, Gibson has offered every guitar they produce in different color combinations.

The Zoot Suit is no different.

http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/SG/Gibson-USA/SG-Zoot-Suit.aspx

Available colors:
Rainbow
Black and Red
Black and Natural
Black and Orange
Red and Blue

I rest my case.
I was just going by the link previously,

Ugh, neither configuration makes any sense. I have never played or heard a HSS guitar that needed the first "S", nor a HSH guitar that needed the only "S".

Re: New (to me) Gibson design.

Sure, it might come in rainbow. It still sounds and feels like someone made a guitar out of my old kitchen worktop.

Re: New (to me) Gibson design.

yeah but it's a frickin rainbow

oh yeah that's right you hate rainbows now. forgot about that.

Re: New (to me) Gibson design.

To Mr. Anjohl,
I think people convince themselves it makes a difference with HSH guitars, and maybe it actually does, but I don't hear it either. I only need a good neck humbucker for my tunes. Anything beyond that is icing. :)
